Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 10/12/22

Every week, tons of new books hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are the picks of the week for delivery this Wednesday

What’s up Wednesday Warriors. Pretty good week this week, especially for Star Wars fans. Check out what is on tap this week!

New #1’s
Batman Incorporated #1 – all-new, all-exciting adventure for Ghost-Maker and his Batman Incorporated team! The team’s trust issues and detective skills are immediately put to the test when someone from Ghost-Maker and Batman’s recent past is brutally murdered… Is this an isolated event, sending a message to the two? Or is this the start of something darker and more sinister? (Hint–it’s sinister and dark!)

Hitomi #1 – In Feudal Era Japan, a drifter with no prospects begins training in secret under Yasuke, a once-famous, displaced, disgraced warrior, as she struggles to find her place in a society entrenched in discrimination and violence. Combining the historical sweep and elegance of Kurosawa with the visceral action of Tarantino, this saga follows the trials and tribulations of a young female warrior who travels the countryside unendingly as she works to gain the rank of Samurai-a title no man, monster, or myth can give to her, but one that she will have to take for herself. Regular cover, Momoko Cover, and 1:25 Variant

Namor The Sub-Mariner Conquered Shores #1 – New miniseries focused on Namor.

UNPrepped #1 – You may THINK you’re ready for the apocalypse, but even after lockdown plagues, town-razing natural disasters, and an ever-present threat of rogue nations going nuclear, the average Joe just isn’t prepared for a total global disaster. Witness mankind’s transition from the Digital Age to the Stone Age in the blink of an eye, and the only light comes from an angry sun setting on two families struggling to survive. Comics legend Chuck Dixon reunites with frequent collaborator Scott Beatty to chronicle the final days

Wakanda #1 – each issue spotlights a different fan-favorite Wakandan character. First up: Shuri proves that being without the Black Panther doesn’t mean Wakanda is without heroes to protect it – and that there is a reason she too once wielded the power.

Year Zero Vol 0 #1 – AWA’s zombie anthology returns.

For the Cover

DCs Terrors Through Time #1 – Just an awesome B cover on this, VHS horror variant.

Gambit #4 Cover B Variant NetEase Games Cover – Just a great looking Rogue cover.

Halloween Picks
Chilling Adventures Of Salem #1 – Love me some Archie Horror. This special one-shot explores a different side of Salem’s life, one in which he acts as an anti-hero enacting vigilante justice on those who hurt others like him… animals, in a horror story that’s equal parts Pet Sematary and Hereditary.

Halloween Party #1 – Brian Posehn and the crew behind Secret History on the War on Weed return for a Halloween one-shot set in the same universe.

Legacy Of Violence #1 – Cullen Bunn Horror (always bet on Bunn). Dr. Nick Shaw; an honest doctor just trying to help people. But one day, when a patient gets out of control, Nick suddenly begins recalling past memories he had kept hidden away. That’s when he decides to join Doctors Without Borders and heads straight for Central America. But his past still comes calling. With a serial killer on the loose in the small town of Disante, Honduras, Nick’s flashbacks begin to intensify-and become clearer. Was Nick meant to go to Honduras? Is this all part of the killer’s plan? Find out what Nick has been repressing all these years and why.

One to Watch

Venom #11 – The A cover is the one to grab, as it features Sleeper Agent, but damn it is hard to pass up that sweet B cover by Dave Rapoza.

Small Press Pick of the Week
Approach #1 – When airport employees Mac and Abigail find themselves snowed in after a blizzard, they witness a terrible plane crash. After pulling a survivor from the wreckage, they realize a terrifying truth: this plane has been missing for 27 years! The nightmare has only just begun though, as the people trapped in the airport soon find themselves confronted by what this plane actually brought back…. For those with a fear of flying… it’s not the sky that deserves dread, but what lies beyond it…

Picks of the Week
Star Wars Visions #1 – FROM ONE OF THE CREATIVE MINDS BEHIND THE STAR WARS: VISIONS EPISODE “THE DUEL” COMES AN ALL-NEW STORY! TAKASHI OKAZAKI (Afro Samurai) is continuing his storytelling from the acclaimed STAR WARS: VISIONS episode “THE DUEL,” featuring the Ronin! With an art style depicted directly from “THE DUEL” – grey tones with exciting color for lightsabers and blasts – the mythology of STAR WARS infused with elements of Feudal Japan makes this issue a MUST READ for STAR WARS and MANGA fans alike!

Star Wars High Republic #1 – Cannot pass up a new Star Wars series. Between Visions, and High Republic, it is a good week for Star Wars fans. Needless to say, our friend Drunk Wooky counted over 12 first appearances in the issue.
