CovrPrice.Com Runners-Up for Week of 2/3/23

As promised, the Covrprice.com runners-up list. The second half of the Top 20.

#11 SINS OF SINISTER #1 – STANLEY ARTGERM LAU – VIRGIN (1:100) | MARVEL | 2023
Mr. Sinister is a dominant X-Men villain that many forget, and marvel reminded everyone how badass he could be in this book. It has ten variants, and this beauty is one of them. Artgerm covers receive a ton of attention on the aftermarket. Add a high ratio and a little Emma Frost in the mix, and you have a sought-after book! We tracked 10 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 114%, with a high sale of $224 for a raw copy and an NM FMV of $192.

#12 ACTION COMICS #1051 – DAN MORA – REGULAR | DC | 2023
Per DC, this book marks the beginning of a new era of Action Comics. By that, we mean many new characters that are too numerous to list, new costumes, locations, and more. It appears to be a story pivot book like DC has done so many times before. Fans have picked up this book in droves in case it sticks! We tracked 80 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 89%, with a high sale of $17 for a raw copy and an NM FMV of $5.

#13 MARVEL PREMIERE #32 | MARVEL | 1976
This book marks the first appearance of Monark Starstalker (say that ten times fast), a bounty hunter known throughout the galaxy. Well, at least in comics, as he is a deep cut that many are just becoming aware of. This is due to the recent announcement Monark would be squaring off against Cosmic Ghost Rider in his upcoming solo series in March. He’s an interesting one, and hopefully, Monark will see some more development! We tracked 11 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 204%, with a high sale of $9.99 for a raw copy and an FN FMV of $3.

#14 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #300 | MARVEL | 1988
Venom is firmly established as a fan-favorite character and has film franchises, numerous comic runs, action figures, and more. Currently, the Venom run has received much acclaim while fans eagerly await Venom 3’s eventual release. There will always be fans of the character who want to revisit his first appearance in this book and acquire it for their PCs. We tracked 17 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 114%, with a high sale of $1,379.99 for a CGC 9.6 and a raw NM FMV of $626.

#15 X-MEN #282 | MARVEL | 1991
Bishop is one of the best things to come out of the 90s era of comics, debuting on the cover and in this book alongside Malcolm and Randall. He quickly became a character many could root for and still do. The fanbase got a taste of his awesomeness with X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST and rumors are swirling they could be getting another in the upcoming X-MEN 97. Regardless, this has been a relatively cheap and plentiful key that many collectors aim to insert into their PC. We tracked 14 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 126%, with a high sale of $186.23 for a CGC 9.8 and a raw NM FMV of $14.

#16 WOLVERINE #1 | MARVEL | 1982
Since Hugh Jackman announced Wolverine’s return in DEADPOOL 3, fans have been scrambling to acquire key books featuring the ragin’ Canadian. While Hulk 180/181 are out of reach for many, this book is more attainable. It still holds the title of being Wolverine’s first solo series, albeit limited to four issues. It also marks the first utterance of Wolverine’s timeless catchphrase, “I’m the best there is at what I do.” Still, goose bump inducing 40 years later! We tracked 11 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 106%, with a high sale of $930 for a CGC 9.8 and a raw NM FMV of $143.

#17 TALES OF THE TEEN TITANS #44 | DC | 1984
This book has a lot going on, as it is the first appearance of Dick Grayson as Nightwing (and THAT costume) and the origin of Deathstroke and Jericho. Nightwing has become a titan in his own right, and Deathstroke is a villain many ranks in their top ten all-time. Learning more about him was the icing on the cake, as fans were primarily ecstatic to see the evolution of Dick Grayson. Nightwing saw a nice boost with the release of TITANS, and now that the show is ending, fans are revisiting his first appearance in preparation for what comes next. We tracked 10 copies sold at a 7-day trend of 111%, with a high sale of $159 for a CGC 9.6 and a raw VF FMV of $89.

#18 BATMAN ONE BAD DAY CATWOMAN #1 SERG ACUNA (1:50) | DC | JAN 24, 2023
Since last year DC has been releasing epic 64-page one-shot books focusing on 1 Batman villain over a day. Promised as a definitive telling, it’s now Catwoman’s turn to receive the definitive treatment. Catwoman is incredibly popular, as are her covers, including this Acuna 1:50 variant. Her incentive covers often see a nice boost in the aftermarket, which appears no different. We tracked 18 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 61%, with a high sale of $60 for a raw copy and an NM FMV of $36.

#19 G.I. JOE #1 | MARVEL | 1982
Go, Joe! That catchphrase elicited countless echoes of “Go Joe” through the minds of many who are reading this. That’s because G.I. Joe was a cultural sensation, and it all began with this book. Featuring the first appearances of pretty much every iconic G.I. Joe character, it’s the key to acquiring for any G.I. Joe fan out there. That might be why we’re seeing an uptick in sales as of late, as this book is WAY down from its previous all-time high of $4,990 for a CGC 9.8 back in February of 2021. We tracked 11 copies sold at a 7-day trend of 94%, with a high sale of $910 for a CGC 9.8 and a current raw VF FMV of $103.

#20 BATMAN/SPAWN #1 – BARNES & NOBLE | DC | 2022
It didn’t take long to see this book back on our lists! After all, it was the variant to collect when Batman and Spawn returned for their third outing. High-grade copies were tough to get as big box retailers are never kind to our dear floppies. But that hasn’t stopped some from circulating, while lower-grade copies circulate in larger quantities. Many of these books are being submitted and held, but some inevitably are making it to the aftermarket! We tracked 10 copies sold, at a 7-day trend of 106%, with a high sale of $192.50 for a CGC 9.8 and an NM FMV of $25.
