Comics picks of the week for delivery 9/17/14

Each week, hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to the potential. We pick the ones we think have the best chance of heating up. Here are our picks of the week for 9/17/14:

Going to start off with an odd one, The Random Marvel one:
Edge of the Spider-verse #2– The multi-verse spanning story continues with a trip to Gwen Stacy Spider-Woman. I know these stories can be hokey, but the character design looks awesome. If this sticks around, she could be a hot character in the future.
The small press gem:
Itty Bitty Bunnies in Rainbow Pixie Land Save X-mas– The previous issue popped right out of the gate and cooled off. This one will probably do the same thing. Get in, get out as quickly as possible. Especially the Tickle Me Tyrone Variant cover. There is also a Phantom Variant
The Blue Chip:
Manifest Destiny #10– This is one of the books that keeps picking up readers and continues to grow. Besides being a great story, these issues could appreciate long term.
The pick of the week:
Jim Henson’s Storyteller Witches #1– Jim Henson is beloved. His creations are loved the world around.

‘The Magic Swan Goose & the Lord of the Forest.’ When her brother is kidnapped by a witch, a young princess must venture into the mysterious forest beyond the castle. There, the Lord of the Forest, an armor clad spirit who watches over the wilderness, comes to her aid, but the princess must rely on her wits to discover who she can trust before her family is cursed forever.

That’s it for us this week. Let us know what you are spec-ing on.

  1. Sadly, I can still pick up previous copies of the Itty Bitty Bunnies at one local shop.
My pick is Jim Henson’s Storyteller Witches.

      1. Yeah, I almost picked up myself but I knew if I didn’t sell immediately it’d be sitting in one of my boxes currently. Since I’m so busy currently with work, kids, etc, I put selling on hold. Only trying to buy what I think might still be worth a few pennies weeks or months from now when. I’ve still managed to stay current with my reading though, I’ve actually set aside Wednesday nights to cram as many of my weekly pickups in to read so I’m not stressing on getting behind before next weeks releases..

        1. I am so far behind in some books I have begun to drop them. No big deal something would end up replacing them. Poyo, if you are worried about having 40,000 long boxes you can tell your wife you are building an addition to the house with them. I will soon need to build a comic book room in the back yard completely out of comic books. (Or just sell the damned things to get a bigger house to put them in but if I sell them I wouldn’t have anything to put in the bigger house.)

              1. Don’t feel too bad. They just call up the local shop and are then paid for the local shop to remove them. 🙂

                1. No…… My wife has been strictly informed to not call the local shops as they will probably look through the nearly 40,000 comics and go “well… Don’t really see much value here, we will give you $150” or “we get a lot of these kinds of books, not really worth much” when there is complete runs of walking dead, silver age key marvels, near complete runs of Classic books like X-men Daredevil Iron Man Amazing Spider-Man

                2. Well, that’s why you leave in your will an estimated value though so they know they’re not getting ripped off. 🙂
Time to create a database of every comic you own that pulls recent eBay sales values that is automagically updated up to the minute you die so your wife can mourn her loss while on vacation in the Fiji Islands.. 😉

      2. That’s why I’m happy to live in a house that has 800 sq ft (4,500 total) dedicated to my collections. I only have around 8k in comics, but have over 300k baseball cards and well over 500 toys/figures in original packaging. Then there’s the gun safes…. I had a separate Uhaul for just my collections when we moved 2 1/2 yrs ago.

      3. 40K of long boxes!!!!!! how do you even know what comics you have? you must have a photo memory or a ginormous spreadsheet. I hope you have insured your collection and keep uping your policy every year…I already told my wife that if I die, go to my buddy that owns a comic shop and sell everything on consignment.
