Each week hundreds of new books hit the stands. Each with potential, some live up to that potential. Each week we pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks for release 5/21/14:
Small Press gem of the week:
Last Broadcast #1 Boom has been doing well lately, so their new releases are worth watching out for, what is it about? An urban spelunking group in San Francisco discovers a secret bunker belonging to the long-vanished 1930s stage magician Blackhall the Incredible at the same time as young, out-of-work magician Ivan receives a mysterious package that points him toward a possible conspiracy involving Blackhall’s death in 1934. Both groups dive into the mystery, not yet realizing that it’s about the change their lives forever.
Ordinary #1– Titan is also worth watching, they have been putting out quality books. What if everyone woke up with superpowers – and it was the worst thing in the world? When a strange plague gives every human being on the planet special powers, it’s seen as the next step in human evolution. But hope quickly turns to terror, as every war, terrorist attack, every crime, every simple street argument escalates a truly horrific point. The world is tearing itself apart – every trouble spot becomes a monstrous war zone and nuclear Armageddon looms. The plague must be cured if humankind is to survive. The key lies in the blood of the only human being who didn’t get powers when the plague hit: A downtrodden, recently divorced New York plumber named Michael Fisher. The most ordinary man alive has suddenly become the most extraordinary person on Planet Earth. Giant baseball players, grannies aging in reverse, a talking Grizzly bear. That’s nothing out of the Ordinary!
The “it’s back baby” book:
Saga #19 Yes, it is back. After a brief hiatus, Saga returns with a new story line.
The one everyone is getting anyway:
MPH #1 Love him or hate him (or both in my case) Mark Millar puts out a quality book. Usually with movie tie in’s eventually.
The follow up issue:
Invincible #111 Following up on the rape in issue #110, this one is a must pick up. The aftermath of Mark’s rape begins here, plus Kirkman has been talking this one up as the one to get.
Well, that is it for us this week. let us know what you are spec-ing on.

I’m going to roll with:
ITTY BITTY BUNNIES IN RAINBOW PIXIE CANDY LAND #1
DANGER ZONE
(W/A/CA) Dean Rankine
Take some time for an adventure to a magical world with two cute bunnies… two foul mouthed, drug using, butt-naked bunnies that go on adorably offensive, insultingly hilarious adventures! Your journey into off-color fun begins here, with this mix of Adventure Time and underground commix
Funny as hell.
Will appeal to the Adventure Time /Johnny the Homicidal Maniac crowd.
NOBODY will see it coming..
Thanks Larry!
Ordinary sounds not so ordinary. I am very intrigued by the premise. Thanks Anthony
It looks like Maintenance in feel to me.
Ordinary… imagine everyone wakes up with superpowers. sounds like what killed the original Heroes tv show.
Has anyone heard about justice league #30? Rumor is that livewire is making her new 52 debut in this issue!

TMNT 30th anniversary looked awesome. Just picked up a copy.
Was it an 8.99 book or something?
I totally missed that. So I love the Retailer Incentive (RI) Cover they have and it appears that it’s out of stock everywhere already! Sleeper of the week? Only two listings on eBay both starting at $24.95 and $29.95.. I had to pick one up.
Damn, should’ve ordered a RI. Just got a reg version in my pull box. Eastman and Laird cover!
Yeah, I regret not ordering one from Midtown or TFAW for the $10-$12 price tag, I just spent $28 with shipping off eBay to nab one.
Oooh, ouch. Sometimes midtown will bring then back in stock.
Not sure about this one unless they get returns, since it seems it was a 1 out of 10 Retailer Incentive. Not totally sure how those work.
Last broadcast and ordinary are minis
