Each week hundreds of new books are released. All have potential, some live up to it. Each week we pick the ones we feel have the best shot heating up. Here are our picks for delivery 7/9/14
The Juggernaut:
Spread #1 This one from Justin Jordan and Kyle Strahm has the heat and lives up to it. One part Lone Wolf and Cub one part The Thing.
The variant covers are not too many but are totally rad.
Spread Third Eye Variant
Spread #1 Phantom Variant
The one with the Walking Dead in it:
Walking Dead #129. People think it is dead for speculation, issue 127 changed all that. Always a must pick up.
The odd DC one:
Suicide Squad #1 I rarely count Warner Brothers productions comic books (better known as DC Comics) for speculation. But this one has two clown-girl obsessed fan boy favorites in one package. Both Joker’s Daughter and Harley in one book could bring the fans out in droves.
The odd Marvel one:
100TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL #1 SPIDER-MANSick concept and sick art. Looks fantastic, essentially What if King Pin became Venom in the future? Sure it is a one shot but one of those ones that sticks around forever (What if Venom possessed Deadpool?)
The obligatory Image #1:
Death Vigil STJEPAN SEJIC!!! say no more.
The small press long shot:
Sherwood TX Robin Hood in Texas on Motor Cycles. Give it a try it is only a buck. If it ends up being a tv show (like the Strain) you could maximize your money.
That’s it for us this weekend, let us know what you are spec-ing on.

Spread is getting great reviews so far.
I think it is going to be fantastic.
Guy on the GCG boards is doing a CGC signing with both the artist and writer. He was taking requests for all three covers. I’m still new to those boards, and have no idea how the CGC submissions work with other people. Need to find out as I thoroughly enjoy SS.
That is probably Rick. He is a local cgc rep. I run into him at signings from time to time and is a good guy. I think he charges $75 for the signing, the witnessing, and the cgc grading.
I ordered one, I’ve worked with him before and he’s a pro. Came back as 9.8 as planned as promptly as CGC got it out. I also see Spread being a great book for years to come. Dig up the #4 cover on Comic Book Resources, it’s insane! Not to mention Kyle Strahm is an extremely nice guy, very well deserved success.
Kyle and Justin are both extremely nice (and talented). I have met Justin a bunch of times and he is the kind of guy who will just sit there and talk to you. Kyle, I have not met yet, but have emailed back and forth with him. He is extremely pleasant and seems like a great guy. I am looking forward to meeting him on Saturday.
Yes, Rick is a pro, he does this for a living, he is a good guy to talk to, and I know he respects the creators when he is doing the signings.
I picked up a couple of regular Spread’s, looking forward to them.
I got a bunch. 😉
With all the signings, I bet. My shops were stacked up so I can likely pick up more if they heat up any. I have a feeling this is one you just hold onto for a while, probably won’t be a big flip at first, you’ll make your money back later down the road.
I am hoping there will be some heat as there are only the Phantom and Third Eye variants and they are both homages to classic covers.
Yeah, any heat will be with the variants. I think the regular is the one you just hold onto.
I love the regular too. I have been so pumped for this book! The reviews have been great. Stuck at work and cannot read it…. yet
Just sat down and read it. It’s pretty darn good if you ask me. 🙂
Death Vigil is by far a better book and over time will retain more value IMHO than Spread #1
To,each their own. I do like Steven S. ‘S art though
Art was great but browsing a few pages and reading some of the story, it fell flat for me. Stick to art, let someone else do the writing is my verdict for Death Vigil. The writing was just dreadful to be honest, like it was geared toward the tween crowd (Twilight crowd, except the weird 40 year olds who love it, to those not familiar with the word tween). This type of fantasy story is nothing really ground breaking either, which was the other turn off for me.
