Sorry for the late update, have been packing up the last of the Spread signed books to go out tomorrow.
Each week hundreds of new books hit the stands, each one with potential, we pick the books we think have the best shot at heating up.
Phew. Spread was kind of a big deal last week.
Larry already covered Life with Archie #36, so I am going to stay away from that one. So here are our (non-Archie) picks of the week.
The new thing from Image:
Dark Engine #1– I know I pick a lot of Image books. Sometimes it seems like Image Comics Heating Up, but they sure do bring the heat. Dark Engine is a gritty, gruesome new book. It reminds me of Orc Strain, which could bring in the crowd. The art work looks great.
The Smaller Press one:
Squidder #1– Ben Templesmith is back. His art always speaks to me. Sure this is a mini-series, but the Cthulhu crowd and the Templesmith fans will rejoice with this one.
The follow up issue:
The Wicked + The Divine #2– The first issue really brought people in. Very interesting concept. 1B features a cover by Chip Zdarsky of Sex Criminals, and is a pick up for me.
The outside chance:
Devilers #1– Joshua Hale Fialkov’s horror / supernatural series seven people versus all of Hell’s army. Looks great
That’s it for me. Off to the post in the morning with another bag of goodies heading out. Let us know what you are spec-ing on this week.

W&D #2b is one frighteningly ugly cover.
I picked some anyways.
I like Chip Z’s art. He is a funny dude.
Store had a TON of Archies..all the variants. He was limiting them to one per customer, but I still picked up two of the graveyard variants.
Which store? Did they have the Fiona Staples variant? I heard there was an error so the one shop that had the other covers didn’t have the Staples cover yet.
I think the Staples cover is the one to get out of the bunch. Seems Midtown and TFAW both sold out of this one online way before the others.
At least 5. Wish I would have known that.
