God Hates Astronauts Spec

One book I am looking forward to coming out soon is God Hates Astronauts. It is a super-hero farcical comedy that I have found to be drop dead funny. The first issue drops September 3, 2014.
God Hates Astronauts is done by Ryan Browne who has worked on The Manhattan Project’s and Bedlam (both books I love). It was originally a self-published effort. He also did a Kickstarter for 2,500 copy print run hardcover collection of the self-published work. This was then released in soft cover format from Image.
The description of the book follows:
A NASA funded group of arrogant ‘super people’ must stop a rash of farmers that have been using rocket-powered silos to launch themselves into outer space! As these Astro-Farmers fire themselves all over the galaxy, NASA must utilize their every resource (a guy with a ghost-cow head, a bunch of magic bears, and a Chicago cop with robot arms) to avoid an intergalactic incident!
So besides the regular cover there is also a crazy-cool Geof Darrow variant cover.
The real spec:
Just like the convention previews that are going around on Spread right now, Ryan Browne did a Black and White Sketch cover preview that was limited to 120 copies for C2E2. This is the one to try to find. As you can see with Spread, these previews can end up being well received once the book is released. Trying to find copies now.

  1. I’m going to Comic-Con next week. Super excited!!! I was just wondering if you know of any SDCC exclusive’s , variants , preview’s worth specing on?

    1. Walking dead/Manifest Destiny Connecting covers.
Big Trouble in Little China #1
Transformers vs. G.I. Joe #1 Variants
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 30th Anniversary Special Variant
And im sure tons and tons more.

  2. I’d look over the Image books soon to released and check the creators tables for any early release printings, such as a preview book like Spread. Well those and as many upcoming books you feel may be sought after upon release from smaller companies.

  3. Anyone who hasn’t preordered God Hates Astronauts may want to get on that. Get them now before they get eBay priced. Midtown has both covers. This book and Browne’s history has the makings of being rather big.
