Each week Larry, from Larry’s comics stops by to drop his spec tips for us. Here is this weeks, for delivery 10/15/14:

Speculation: investment involving high risk but also the possibility of high
profits.
I have always believed that the icing on the cake of comics is the fact that sometimes they are worth money. They’re entertaining and potentially valuable. I’m a reader first, but have always played the market a bit.
I love investing in modern comics, It’s an endeavor I began in 1988 & enjoyed incredible success along with horrific losses. It’s an exciting emotional roller coaster that starts a new ride every Wednesday. It’s one of my favorite things in this world.
Here are my speculator-y picks of the week:
evil within
EVIL WITHIN #1 (OF 4)
TITAN COMICS
(W) Ian Edginton (A) Alex Sanchez
From Titan Comics. Spun from the new survival horror game The Evil Within from Bethesda Softworks this all-new prequel invites readers to experience the deranged world created by Shinji Mikami. Writer Ian Edginton (Scarlet Traces, Victorian Undead) and artist Alex Sanchez (Katana) present the story of a young student, Dana, whose search for a missing friend leads straight into a world fraught with tension and unimaginable horrors.
WHY take a chance?
This book is a classic Dual Collectible: Two groups competing for an item , for hobby, display, or as an investment.
I’m a sucker for these. If it looks like solid material, I’m a buyer.
This book is based on the first game from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami’s studio Tango Gameworks. The Evil Within is a survival horror title due to arrive on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and next-generation consoles in 2014. October 14th. The day this book hits. It’s great marketing by Titan a relatively new publisher. They’ll underestimate demand.
This book will not “pop” right away, as fans of this game do not even know that they want this book yet. When the seek it out, I’ll be ready for them, likely on Amazon.
This book has two covers, retailers could order without restriction.
Both IMHO are rock solid material that are great long term investments.

WHY take a chance?
This book is going have the “Money Shot”, we’ve waited months for.
The series has dragged on for nine weeks with moderate success. If the media is going to cover any part, its got to be this. Even if this book doesn’t get a whiff of coverage, whatever happens sets up a year+ Wolverine storyline. Delays have allowed retailers to reduce their numbers, we know that for the most part they’re a cowardly lot. Expect #4 to have the lowest print run of the series. It’s a ten dollar bill.
If this book gets mainstream media coverage, Quick flip. Get in. Get out.
PREMATURE E-SPECULATION:

Fantastic Four vol 3 #15 & #50
The 1st cameo & 1st full appearance of Valeria Von Doom
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valeria_Richards
Why Valeria Von Doom?
Why take the chance?
Information & keeping your eyes peeled is critical in the modern speculation game.
I got invited to a Marvel sponsored event/breakfast last week at NYCC, Retailers will received 4 special interconnected NYCC variants as gifts for attending:
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #7
AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS #1
DEATH OF WOLVERINE #4
FANTASTIC FOUR ANNUAL #1
The book that stands out to me in this group of special issues is: FANTASTIC FOUR ANNUAL #1
WHY was it included among relative key offerings?
I speculate that Marvel has plans for Valeria Von Doom in the near future.
Why not? They seem to be hungry to publish young exciting female leads in this era of the rise of the fan girl.
Risk the dollar.

  1. Hey. Not sure if it would also be of interest, but the current incarnation of Valeria first made a cameo in #50 of the 1998 series, and was born in #54; if there’s some differentiation between “Future Val” and “Current Val”. When I was reading the series at the time, I saw Valeria Von Doom/Marvel Girl as an alternate future version of Franklin’s sister. I’ve only read Fantastic Four off & on over the past decade and one thing that’s always puzzled me is how quickly Valeria has grown up. Sometimes she looks the same age as Franklin, and a few artists have even drawn her looking older than Franklin. Did she get hyper-aged at some point?
