Speculation: investment involving high risk but also the possibility of high
profits.
I have always believed that the icing on the cake of comics is the fact that sometimes they are worth money. They’re entertaining and potentially valuable. I’m a reader first, but have always played the market a bit.
I love investing in modern comics, It’s an endeavor I began in 1988 & enjoyed incredible success along with horrific losses. It’s an exciting emotional roller coaster that starts a new ride every Wednesday. It’s one of my favorite things in this world.
Here are my speculator-y picks of the week:
EDWARD SCISSORHANDS #1 Of (5)
IDW PUBLISHING
(Wr) Kate Leth (A) Drew Rausch (CA) Gabriel Rodriguez
An all-new adventure revisiting Edward Scissorhands five decades after the end of the fan-favorite movie!
In castle just outside a sleepy suburban town, a brilliant inventor created Edward Scissorhands…but left him tragically unfinished. Two generations of exile have left Edward digging through abandoned experiments, but once he wakes up a creature left buried, he discovers he isn’t the only one missing a vital piece. As Edward tries to fix a grave mistake, he comes face to face with a teenage girl who was sure he was only myth… despite the stories her grandmother told her, about the man she could never touch.
WHY take a chance?
This book is a classic Dual Collectible: multiple groups competing for an item , for hobby, display, or as an investment.
I’m a sucker for these. If it looks like solid material, I’m a buyer.
As a speculator, it’s not always about what you like. It’s about demand. This book will be in demand.
Tim Burton has a rabid fanbase.
Edward Scissorhands is a cult classic movie.
It’s just basic math, too many collectors will be seeking out a finite number of copies.
CATWOMAN #35
DC COMICS
(Wr) Genevieve Valentine (A) Garry Brown (CA) Jae Lee
Meet Selina Kyle – Crime Boss of Gotham City! Spinning out of events in BATMAN ETERNAL Selina has accepted the family mantle and embraced her true criminal side, but is Gotham City ready for her reign? Don’t miss the start of a bold new direction for Selina Kyle by the new creative team of novelist Genevieve Valentine and Garry Brown (Five Ghosts, Iron Patriot).
WHY take a chance?
Batman Eternal is one of DC’s top selling comics.
In Batman Eternal Catwoman is the main antagonist.
Catwoman is a poor selling DC title.
Catwoman #35 begins to crossover with Batman Eternal.
Translation: One of DC’s weaker selling titles is crossing over with one of their best selling titles.
It’s a ten dollar bill.
PREMATURE E-SPECULATION:

Take a chance on me
Gonna do my very best, baby can’t you see
Gotta put me to the test, take a chance on me
Take a chance, take a chance, take a chance on me:
Carrie Kelley in the upcoming Superman / Batman movie is a thing.
Her 1st appearance in Dark Knight Returns is pretty pricey.
Her New 52 debut in Batman & Robin #19 is a bargain right now.
Risk the dollar.
