Each week, hundreds of new comics hit the shelves, each with potential. Some live up to the potential. We pick the ones we think have the best bet of heating up.
Since it is October, a lot of horror themed books will be popping up on the list, just in time for Halloween.
The monthly Walking Dead:
Walking Dead #133– No doubt this book still has traction. Just check out what is going on with the books in the Fear the Hunter’s story line. The current arch is fantastic, the talking zombie twist has been really cool.
The outside chance:
13 Coins #1 Simon Bisley’s new book. Written by the Screen Writer of Hitman: Absolution. Small press = small print run. Since it has a media tie-in with the writer, could easily imagine a media deal announced down the road.
The small press gem:
Memetic #1 Yes, it is a miniseries but it is a cool idea. In fact, it is an idea that will wipe out civilization in three days. A meme is an idea that catches hold with multiple people. Now, just imagine if it is weaponized.
The new Image #1:
Goners #1– From the colonization of Roanoke to the Cold War, the world famous Latimer Family has been humanity’s lone defense against paranormal horrors for centuries…until tonight.
A deadly assault on the lineage forces an unprepared brother and sister to solve their parents’ murder while trying to escape the grim landscape of horrors that stalk the children themselves.
The odd DC book on the list:
Arkham Manor #1– Written by Deadpool’s Gerry Duggan. When catastrophe strikes Arkham Asylum, where will Gotham City house the world’s most dangerous criminals, and when inmates are found murdered, what is Batman prepared to do in search of justice? Arkham’s madness comes home in ARKHAM MANOR!
The pick of the week:
Edward Scissorhands #1– No doubt people love Edward Scissorhands. The Tim Burton movie has been a cult classic since it came out. This one also has the crossover appeal for fans of the movie and fan girls. There was a Edward Scissorhands #1 NYCC that is worth checking out, as well as an Edward Scissorhands Ashcan worth checking out.
Variants worth checking out.
Five Ghosts #13 Third Eye Variant– I love Five Ghosts. Issue 13 has a Kyle Strahm (Spread) Variant that rocks.

Edward Scissorhands hands down.. 🙂
Odd one for me to jump on but I’m jumping on Arkham Manor. Love the spin as well as the variant.
