Comics picks of the week for delivery 12/17/14

Each week, hundreds of new books hit the shelves, most with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are picks of the week for delivery 12/17/14:
Let’s jump right into it.
The one that Diamond messed up on:
Squarriors #1– Some stores got it last week, some will get them this week. Cool art and story on this one.
The returning favorite:
Wytches #3– No stopping Scott Snyder’s new horror series. This book is awesome. Throw in he movie deal and you have a hit. There is also the Wytches #3 Third Eye Variant which rocks.
Speaking of Scott Snyder
The Pick of the week:
Batman #37 Odd for me to pick a big two book for the pick of the week, let alone a DC New 52 book, but you could buy this one for the cover alone. Also, it features the return of the Joker.
There is also a Loot Crate Variant this month which can be gotten (along with a ton of other stuff including an exclusive Funko Pop, the biggest crate ever they say, for about $16 if you use the code save3) and a Darwyn Cooke Variant featuring classic villains.
And the WTF but buy it anyway if you see it book:
Bartkira Exhibition book– The bastard child of The Simpsons and Akira, two animation legends.

Back in the early 1990s, when anime was still called Japanimation and The Simpsons still featured Phil Hartman, no one could have conceived of the concept of Bartkira. Yet 23 years later, in Neo-Britain, artist Ryan Humphrey gave life to the unimaginable. His pages for the mind-bending crossover comic ignited a fire in the mind of comic artist James Harvey, who proposed the impossible: Recreate every page of Akira using characters from The Simpsons. It would take 768 artists, each contributing five pages, to redraw the full six volumes of Katsuhiro Otomos masterwork. A monumental group comic project unlike any other inspired working illustrators, comics professionals, and even some who had never drawn a comic in their lives.

  1. Did they mess up on the East of West as well? Seems my local shops got them last week and most online retailers are getting them this week (Midtown has them listed for tomorrow).

  2. Poyo, you need an East of West I can grab you one at Midtown. They got them in this week. They had it releasing last week but quickly removed it from the drop list. Let me know if you want to grab any.
