Think Outside the Toybox: Star Wars Black Series figures

Thanks to Tyson B. one of our toy guys for this.
When I first heard about the launch of the new Star Wars Black Series Line from Hasbro a few years back I thought, “Oh, great what the world needs, more Star Wars toys.” Don’t get me wrong I love the first three (IV,V,VI), and the original Kenner toy line. I just lost track with the new Trilogy. But something that stuck out was that they were going to do something for the first time ever, 6 inch Star Wars action figures. I like different so I figured I would concentrate on those.

The first wave started hitting retail shelves in July 2013 with Luke Skywalker (Rebel Pilot), Sandtrooper, Darth Maul, and R2-D2 . Different waves followed with various other characters though out the years. You can expect to see Waves 7 and 8 to hit shelves sometime in April and Wave 9 sometime in June.
Enough about that, here where you need to start thinking outside the toy box. The Series has been around awhile now and figures are starting to get discontinued. Wave 1 is gone. There are no more at the wholesale/disturber level. They are all out on the pegs or already in the hands of collectors. The prices for figures in wave one are already on the rise. So if you are lucky enough to find wave one on the shelves, grab them! Next on the chopping block is wave 2, which includes Boba Fett and Slave Leia. Wave 3 is a good one to keep an eye on. Why? It has a Stormtrooper, people always but multiples making them desirable and highly sought after. I mean what good is posing Darth Vader without at least a posse of 4-6 Stormtoopers? So it might be wise to start adding those to your collection as well.
Let keep that last thought in mind for a second. They launched R2-D2 in Wave 1 but still no C3P0. I am not a mind reader but I wouldn’t see why C3P0 would not be included in future waves. We now have Luke and Han in Stormtrooper disguise. You still have Chewie to pose in cuffs with them? What about Slave Leia to go with the newly launched Jabba the Hut from the Deluxe Series?
One more thing to leave you with, Hasbro is now starting offer cases of solids. What are solids? Cases of one type of action figure as oppose to a Wave of one of each. How can that benefit you? You can grab four cases of Stormtroopers and one case of Darth Vader. You now have four sets of Vader with a crew of Stormtrooper you flip as a set if you so choose. The same goes for Chewie in cuffs with Han and Luke, Slave Leia with Bobba Fett. I think you get the idea. How you think outside the toy box is up to you.

  1. I had no idea the prices for series 1 had climbed that much. That is so great! I’ve been sitting on a full series 1 set. Time to start buying Boba Fett(s). Thanks for the update!!

  2. Guys, the Hasbro store on EBay has the 6 inch Black Series Boba Fett for $19.99. Free shipping for purchase over $50. I picked up several. Most are selling in the $28 range now.

    1. Well what do ya know…..after I placed my order this morning, Hasbro has a FLASH SALE for 50% off the figure. WTF!!!!!!!!!
