Wednesday Open Forum

Wednesday
Wednesday, the best day of the week, new comic book day. It is like your birthday in the middle of each week (where you buy your own presents that is.)
Each week we open it up to hear what is on your mind.
Let’s hear those weekly pick ups!
What was on the shelf in stacks?
What was gone before you got there?
Or whatever else is on your mind.

  1. On The prowl for that A-Force #1 Hughes variant…Dont sleep on the Run The Jewels Deadpool Secret wars Variant ..Edge of Spiderverse #1 vol 2 1:25 heating up…Pockets gonna be wrecked tomorrow Star wars CP30 Variant …Secret Wars side books..im loving Secret wars so far …

      1. One local shop I frequent bumped theirs to $79.99. I wasn’t planning on getting it even if it was $50.. it is a cool cover but I only picked up a copy of A-Force to check out.. not sure how many more I’ll buy after that. I’m all for women power but the main cover just presents itself as cheesy to me.. I hope it’s better than how they’re presenting it.

      2. Hit up another shop I frequent today. Picked up the Hughes variant for $18! Too good to pass up at that price.

      3. Very nice. I probably would of picked it up at that price, that would be an easy flip.

      4. I haven’t decided if I’m going to keep or flip. I already put up some of the variants I got at cover price on eBay. Not sure on this one…

  2. My definite pickups most likely..

Actually smaller week again unless I find variants at cover.

  3. So, did everyone get their copies of New Mutants #1 (1983) before the prices went up? There were a lot printed from what I remember (I’m old) but with movie hype it has become pretty hot so even with a lot out there they seem to be moving…. In the mid 80’s I remember dealers saying Hulk 181 would never be worth a whole lot because they were in every back issue bin with numerous copies to be found. Just goes to show you when something hits big the sky could be the limit… Don’t think that will quite be the case for NM#1 but looks to still have room to grow.

    1. Yup, only demand causes current value. Supply assists but when you break it down, demand is the driving factor for value and price.

    2. Alot of people were screaming sell New Mutants 98, because of it’s print run, when it hit $75, $100, $200 and ect. (investcomics) Keep this in mind when looking at Outcast #1’s print run.

      1. Yeah but New Mutants first appearance of major character. The problem I’m having now with Outcast is, it’s not really all that good. I’m probably gonna drop it soon.. unless it starts getting better or does some wow factor story telling, the only thing that hyped this book was the writer (who has another hit with hit TV show) at this point. Kirkman is pretty good but he’s no Oprah yet.. not everything he touches I expect it to turn to gold.. 😉

      2. Investcomics favor selling modern comics when hot because most are temporary fads. However for those with long term potential, one should be kept. Otherwise there might be seller regret in the future.

      3. Just remember to read their “Warning/Caution Sign” when it comes to collecting.

        1. It’s a waiver of liability. I have one too. It’s on the about page. We all try our best to stay informed and look at trends. Sometimes we are just wrong. It happens. Speculation is a guess. What I like to do is present the information and let people decide for themselves.

      4. I reject your waiver of liability Tony and hold you fully responsible when my wife beats me for buying a comic you say will heat up and sell and it doesn’t. Where can I sign up for the CHU healthcare insurance? 😉

    3. Hulk 181 was an unexpected hot comic and less common than Giant-size X-Men 1. In the early years, Hulk 181 was easier to find. Of course, no one is perfect in predicting the future. In the 1970s, I notified Overstreet about Hulk 182 and 180 before price guide published the information.

      1. No one is perfect in predicting the future.. because one actually predicts the future. We can only guess in reality based on the past or current trends. Predicting the sun will rise in the East tomorrow is an easy future prediction because it’s been happening for 4.6 billion years.. predicting the demand and price of a comic is only guessing. Honestly, the word prediction is just a fancy way of saying guessing in my opinion.
Sorry, I’m fascinated by prediction, statistical and probability type scenarios.. read many books on them. 🙂

    Star Wars #5
Tithe #2 Good first issue and i’m really looking forward to see how the series plays out.
    Wytches #6

    1. Fade Out is awesome. Anyone who loves crime drama must read Brubaker’s crime type comics.. he’s probably the best at it currently.
And yes Tithe #1 was well done.. loving it, hope it keeps at it.

      1. I’m glad they’re getting back to the Sommers ( I think that’s her name) murder plot. I’m out of town for work so I won’t be able to read it until this weekend but that was teased in the preview.
I almost didn’t order Tithe #1 because I wondered how exciting a comic about some hackers could be, but it was well paced and well told. So glad I didn’t miss out on it.

        1. I was hooked interested in Tithe only because it was people stealing money from the Mega Churches to give back to worthy charities.. 😛

        1. Yeah, I agree. Just good writing. Definitely looking forward to reading #2 sometime tonight or the next few days when I get a chance.

  10. Snagged 2 different A-Force variant covers, Letter 44, and located the only 2 copies of Carpe Noctem #1 from Hashtag Comics I could find between 3 stores – it didn’t disappoint. Saw no Mad Max anywhere.

  11. Clerk a the LCS told me they had lots of people looking for Rick and Morty comics. I went to 2 shops and they had no Kaptara #2 or any Mad Max.
