Everything you love eventually comes to an end. Scream and Nightmare on Elm Street creator, Wes Craven, has passed away at age 76. Nightmare on Elm Street was my first foray into horror (of course followed by Friday the 13th) and turned me into a young horror fan.
From AP:
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Wes Craven, whose “Nightmare on Elm Street” and “Scream” movies made him one of the most recognizable names in the horror film genre, has died. He was 76.
Craven’s family said in a statement that he died in his Los Angeles home Sunday after battling brain cancer.
A prolific writer, director and editor, Craven was credited with reinventing the teen horror genre with the 1984 release of “A Nightmare on Elm Street” starring a then-unknown Johnny Depp. The movie led to several sequels, as did his 1996 movie “Scream.”
Besides his work in horror films, Craven also directed the drama “Music of the Heart,” which earned Meryl Streep an Oscar nomination.
Craven is survived by his wife, producer Iya Labunka, a son, a daughter and a stepdaughter.
The man is a legend! Fond memories of seeing elm st too young and being scarred. Then scream during my teenage years
🙁
Terrible news. His imagination has slithered into my dreams, and I’m thankful what the works he has created. I wonder what now happens with media deals related to The Disciples?
thats a good question ..SSell fish comics had a sweet Nightmare on elm street homage cover for the Disciples #1
I would imagine the production company would continue with it as well as having his name attached. I do not think he has been very hands on in the last three years.
All the media deals are still continuing.
An entertainment legend. I will be enjoying an elm street marathon ASAP.
R.I.P. Mr. Craven.
Guess he counted to 10……
This Halloween would have been Friday the 13th. It’s the first time Halloween has been on Friday the 13th in 666 years. Sorry you’re going to miss it, Wes.
Just kidding. Halloween is ALWAYS on the 31st. Damn you internet memes for getting the best of me. I should have known better. Still, I’m sure Wes would have enjoyed one more halloween regardless.
