Court of Owls to appear on Gotham

Here is something sure to help the already hot Batman series from Scott Snyder remain hot. The COurt of Owls is set to appear on the Gotham TV show. Confirmed.

Comicbook.com had the exclusive.

During a phone conversation with executive producer and showrunner Bruno Heller, he candidly talked about fan theories, telling ComicBook.com, “everyone’s opinion has been valid and has to be listened to,” expounding on the fact that the characters and concepts they’re playing with are “about the interplay between what we’re doing and what the audience would like to see and how they react.”

In that vein, I asked, well, what about the theory that the Galavan siblings’ long history in Gotham means the Court of Owls is coming, or is that at least something he’s interested in exploring?

“Yeah, absolutely, [I’m interested]. I won’t say that it’s part of – I don’t even want to say that, because I don’t want to spoil part of the story,” Heller said after a bit of a chuckle. He continued, “The Court of Owls is deep, deep, deep Gotham mythology. The comic book fans know about it, but I would suspect the larger audience is not so familiar. We sometimes have to make a distinction between the ‘Nolan-era Batman movie fans’ and the comic book fans. It’s not that they’re two separate audiences, just that there are two levels of engagement. Court of Owls is very much deep DC mythology.

“We are absolutely going to explore that world down the line. Looking at the longevity of the show, we have to hold some cards back, we can’t just throw all of the elements, all of the story at once,” he explained – he even noted earlier during the conversation that he felt they made a mistake trying to throw too much into season one. Heller didn’t mince words, though, and did say definitively, “The long arc of the show is Bruce Wayne’s journey of discovery down into the depths of the physical and meta-physical world of Gotham. The Court of Owls is a brilliant conceit that will absolutely be part of our storytelling. I just won’t tell you when.”

The first appearance of the Court of Owls (may/may not be disputed) is in Batman #1 New 52. Batman #6 New 52 is also worth checking out in part due to the Court of Owls cover.

  1. Makes sense. Any …ANY… Batman/Gotham story that deals with their history is bound to make it into the Gotham show.

  2. This was one of the first things my wife told me when I got home from work. She is excited about it since she likes Gotham. I want to see how they are going to play it out. The court of owls story line is one of the best stories of the new 52 arc in my opinion. Specially cuz no one has kicked Batman’s ass in a long time like Talon has lol. We’ll see how it plays out in the end.

    1. And Talon was awesome when Snyder was writing it.. then he passed it over and it just sucked donkey balls from that point on.

  3. Hey Guys, I’m curious why the Courts’ 1st appearance is in dispute? I thought it was #1? Thanks in advance!

    1. I need to go back and read it but I am not sure if it was only in name only that they appeared or not. The reason it is “disputed” was because some sites have it listed as issue 1 and some have it listed as issue 2. When I usually go with what the consensus of most websites, someone always wants to take a position for another side.

  4. From what I can remember and I double checked over at wiki to make sure lol. Is that the court of owls were first mentioned in Batman #1 and then made there full appearance in Batman #5.

    1. I would say first mention of the COO is Batman #1. First cameo in a picture on the wall in #5 and first full appearance in #6. I’ve read every issue thusfar but haven’t read these particular in a few years but it’s what I remember.
