Double Take’s Z-Men optioned as movie

We mentioned the Kickstarter early on. We had the books as the pick of the week a few weeks ago, now we can say that Double Take’s Z-Men has been optioned for a movie. Z-Men takes place in the Night of the Living Dead Universe (it is public domain material) and loosely based on the original films. If you got the set of all ten comics you would have seen some pretty closely related scenes.

The Bill Jemas spearheaded comic (and comic universe) has been optioned by Lionsgate for a feature film.

Film studio Lionsgate has announced plans to adapt the Double Take comic book Z-Men to the big screen.

Z-Men is the flagship title of Double Take’s line spinning out of the horror classic Night of the Living Dead. Created by Jeff McComsey, Z-Men tells the story of government agents dealing with a zombie outbreak.

“We’re delighted to expand our relationship with our friends at Take-Two by partnering with their comic book arm, Double Take, in bringing Z-Men to the big screen,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger. “We continue to diversify our portfolio with films adapted from novels, video games and board games and look forward to translating 2T’s graphic novel into a spine-chilling film for moviegoers and comic book fans alike. It is yet another example of the strong underlying intellectual property on which our film and television content is based.”

Copies of Z-Men can be picked up for cover price ($2.50) or as a part of the previously mentioned super pack Copies of Z-Men #1 have sold for as high as $9.99 already, which is weird since there are auctions for the Super Pack for $16.

I was speaking pretty in depth about the books to Gabe Yocum, Sales and Marketing Coordinator, this past weekend and he said they had some pretty big plans for the books. The idea is the “situation” that caused the zombie outbreak actually caused more than that. Some of the characters will start taking on super-hero qualities.
