Wednesday Winners: Self Storage #1 and Henchgirl #1

It is always nice to walk into the comic shop on Wednesday and buy new comics. It is even better to be able to sell the books for multiple times cover price by the end of the day. We had two of them this week with Self Storage #1 and Henchgirl #1

Copies of Self Storage #1, out this past Wednesday, and on the pick of the weeks lists, being sold for $12 and up. There is an auction closing shortly for just under $18. Recently Closed sales have been for as high as $19. Not a bad turn around. Copies of these were available for free at NYCC so some sellers had a hand up on people waiting to get them. I read the story in New York and was really impressed by both art and story.

The other winner of the week was Henchgirl #1. This book sold out early and disappeared off the shelves in many comic shops (those that carry small press books.) This was another pick of the week. Copies of Henchgirl #1 are being sold for as much as $22, but more towards the $11-15 range. Recently Closed sales have been spot on the $10-15 range, with books that pre-sold selling for about $7.

  1. My shop was sold out of Self Storage. Funny thing was they talked about how good it was for a few minutes yesterday and as I walked away to grab a copy they said “oh we’re sold out”.

      1. I have yet to read it. Sunflower was pretty good but it seemed kind of gappy.. like, it needs more story building, the fast pace jumping in the story is ruining the story for me. I know it’s a mini-series but this type of story needs to slow down.. Is 451 Media pulling a Black Mask, they seem to be hitting them out of the ball park lately. Their next series, ExMortis coming out next week is already sold out on Midtown.

    1. I really liked Sunflower. It was one of my favorite number ones that I’ve read in awhile. Six is the other 451 book that caught my attention. I didn’t order it but I might try and pick it up on release day.

    1. Honestly, I think the regular cover A is the best cover out of them all. That’s the one I grabbed. Haven’t read yet though.

  2. Henchgirl was fun, coming of rage was written perfectly, and self storage was predictable and sloppy. I’m not saying self storage won’t sell, I’m just saying I won’t be buying anymore issues.

  3. I wasn’t able to pick up anything this week, I’m limited to ebay and of all the comics with spec, not one was available. Oh well.

  4. Yeah I wasn’t able to get any of these books. Been having a long week at work. So that sucks lol.

  5. I pre-ordered several copies of Self Storage from DCBS, but get my books from them bi-weekly, so I haven’t read it yet. What actually sparked my interest is that while I don’t buy storage units, I do go to live auctions & estate sales to buy & flip things the way those “storage wars” types do; so the premise had me hoping this would be unique & interesting. Sounds like it will be. πŸ™‚

And I’m also waiting on my copies of Coming Of Rage to get here. I ordered a ton of those, and one of the Variants, but I can’t remember which one I chose. I was banking on that book because I love Wes Craven; it’s just sad that the potential for the value to rise is now more aligned with his death. That was unexpected. πŸ™

  6. I finally read Self Storage. Pretty good, I’ll be picking up #2 most likely.. I thought it was better than Sunflower.
