Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 12/2/15:
This is a huge week with a lot of good books worth picking up. There are a lot of books on the list this week, but not nearly all of them I swear!
Small Press Gems
Bigfoot Sword of the Earthman #1– It is Bigfoot with a sword, Bigfoot the Barbarian. Art is great Small press, so low print run. Check it out.
Small Press Picks of the week
Replica #1– Aftershock Comics inaugural launch title. Paul Jenkins writing. Have been looking forward to this one for a while.
X’ed #1– Black Mask brings the heat with a highly anticipated new series. This one is selling out at online shops quickly.
The New Image #1
Black Jack Ketchum #1– Odd Image titles always seem to catch on. This quirky surreal western story just might be one of the ones.
It’s Enormous, Just buy it
Enormous Vol. 2 #3 (or Issue 9 for the rest of us)- Enormous returns. Best art in an indie book and consistently solid writing have made this book a must pick up.
Rare DC appearance on the list
Much like the chase with the Sex Criminals sketches, these books are poly bagged and have either a color, a black and white, or a penciled cover version in them. Mystery bags!!!!
Green Lantern #48 Harley Quinn Little Black Book Variant– Tim Sale Harley Cover
Harley Quinn Little Black Book #1 J. Scott Campbell Variant
Returning Favorites
Nailbiter #18– One of my favorite books. I do not know how this hasn’t been picked up yet. Plus, Joshua Williamson is just a cool guy.
Paper Girls #3– Again, one of the best damned books. Issue 1 had me hooked.
Pacific Rim Tales from the Drift #2– Love the movie, looking forward to the sequel. Plus, small print run.
Plutona #3– Kids find a dead superhero. So good. Jeff Lemire is a master.
Survivors Club #3– Has been very good so far. Vertigo is back on the top of their game.
We Can Never Go Home #5– Finally, the first series comes to it’s conclusion. Will be returning! Cannot wait for the second series.
The Pick of the Week
Kodoja #1– I had the NYCC versions of these and sold them quickly. There was that much pre-heat for the new 215Ink book. I do regret selling them all. 215Ink is the king of Giant Monster books! Small print run is assured.
One for the Book Shelf
Private Eye- BKV’s online comic printed in hardcover form.
That is it for us this week, let us know what you are spec-ing on.
Oh yeah, Plutona has been excellent as well.
Plutona has been such a weird book, I’m still not sure what direction it is going in…and I kind of like that!
I have been enjoying it. The kids find the body of the super hero, they do what kids do, surprised there hasn’t been an entire issue of someone poking her with a stick.
Yup.. you know your good writer if a whole issue is based around some kids standing over a dead body..
I bought the first issue of Plutona and haven’t read it. Now it’s a must to see what I am missing.
I would of loved to have BKV Private Eye HC but man.. it’s got a $50 price tag on it. Gonna have to wait on that one after I spend way too much money in past week on comics with LCSD and such.
I spent $100 today. Needed to pass on the $50 Private eye myself.
