  1. I hate to do this but there is no other place to really complain. You guys are fellow comic book purchasers so I feel this is something I have to do and maybe others will step forward as well. You all know Ebay does not protect the buyers and if more is said on forums where actual people are looking maybe something someday will change.

I purchased the Batman Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1:50 Eastman variant on Ebay through Buy it Now for $9.99 from a seller with account name bizarro_world from Davis California. He canceled my order listing it as Out of Stock, only to repost it 10 minutes later for $29.99. I tried to contact the seller without even a response.

Be aware of this seller in the future. Ebay does not care as I called them and they do nothing. They protect only the seller because that’s how they make their money. They even make it difficult for the buyer to leave negative feedback as they will not allow it on a power seller until 7 days after the incident.

I just had to vent. This is the third time this has happened to me in the last month. Plus I feel there should be a forum where others can be made aware and perhaps just maybe sellers will think twice instead of believing they can get away with this. – Tom

    1. That blows but it really goes both ways. As a seller myself on eBay, eBay can go as far as to siding with the buyer who’s trying to rip the seller off at times as well. I had an instance once when a buyer was refusing to pay for shipping, I had to jump through hoops just to get eBay to remove the negative feedback he left me. He made the mistake of admitting he only left it because he didn’t want to pay the shipping. Still took me about 2 months to get it off my account.

I also got dinged once on a shipment cause they claimed they never got it. They opened case and got full refund, even shipping, which was $30 cause it went over seas. That came out of my pocket, even though my auction said I don’t return shipping fees as I charge exact costs. So I was out of a item worth $50 + $30. 9 months later the item shows up at my door. The damn buyer had the wrong address. It was all their fault. eBay still would not refund me my shipping after I explained it was their own fault for providing wrong address.

I never ship internationally anymore. I had a guy once give me negative feedback cause he said the computer RAID card was worthless without the cables for it. I specifically said no cables in the auction. eBay would not remove the feedback.

So yeah, I think everyone has their eBay story but it really goes both ways, buyers and sellers get screwed daily. I try my best to package well, make sure there’s always tracking and never screw the customer over by misleading on the things I sell, never charge more than actual shipping costs and try my best to ship ASAP once I’m paid.

      1. eBay does protect the buyers in cases of defect and damage, wrong items, or failure to ship. However, they do ding sellers who end items early. It goes against their power seller rating. BUt yes, it sucks when people pull books after a purchase and relist them. I sold a book a few months back for $49.99 instead of $149.99, out $100, but still honored the auction as it was my fault. Stung but integrity is important.

        1. Yeah, once you get the item, eBay seems to side with the buyer more often that not.

But yeah, thanks for the warning about the seller who pulled and canceled after you purchased. I’ll definitely avoid such sellers.. I’m the type of person and seller who would own up to my mistakes if I listed the wrong price.

    2. i feel your pain man. I’ve been ripped off a few times one by saying that a book i sent was received with bent corners and creased in the middle…….but, i mailed that out in extra thick foam and card board with corner protectors (learned from experience). so I told dude that that wasnt the book i mailed out,….asked him for additional pix and it took him 15 days to respond with the pix. sounds fishy right? I explained to ebay what was going on and they told me that i needed to issue a refund…..

      1. This is another reason I always specifically state that the buyers have to pay for return shipping if applicable and must pay for tracking, any item not returned without tracking if lost I cannot issue refund without proof. eBay will side with a seller if they ask for the item to be returned, they won’t force you to refund until you get the damaged item back.

So always make the buyer pay return shipping. Most scammers are not going to want to fork over money to return a book, even if it wasn’t the book you sent. That defeats the purpose of trying to scam people to get stuff for free.

        1. Sold a Harry Potter Hallmark ornament for $60. The buyer said it was broken. I requested pictures showing the damage. After 10 days the returned blurry far away pictures. I asked for better ones to show the damage. The buyer got angry and said it was clearly visible. I said nothing was visible in the far away blurry pictures. After another 10 days they responded back that it was missing a part and wanted a refund. This is now well past the 14 day return policy. I said sure, send it back via priority mail as I sent it to them and I would process the refund once I started the case with USPS insurance because it was new and unopened when I sent it.

          Haven’t heard from them since.

          1. Yup, I never have issues when I’m like.. oh, it’s damaged. Go ahead, send it back. Please provide a tracking # and I’ll issue refund as soon as it’s arrived and verified.

I sold a computer part once, 2 months later I get a message saying the part does not work (even though they’re suppose to test immediately within 14 days) so I play it cool and tell them, send back, I’ll refund if it truly doesn’t work. I get the part back two weeks later and it’s broke and it’s got the wrong SFP modules that were in it (it was a fiber channel card). I reply with, this was broken by someone installing it and the SFP modules do not match, not even same type I sent with it. They said forget about it. I’m like damn right.. ughh!

Also snagged more Monstress signed copies of #1 and #2.. yay Monstress.

      1. Oh and I’m not a Deadpool fan but I did make sure to snag a Liefeld variant of Deadpool #3 today at cover price.

    2. Just to spite you, I picked up the Rodriguez and the Lupacchino variants of the Gwenpool special. lol

      1. I actually did too.. I’m gonna sell them to some suckers though more than likely. Cause there’s a lot of Gwen suckers out there.. I have zero desire to keep them. I might dog Gwenny.. but I never said I wouldn’t make money off her. 😉

        1. There is a Fried Pie Variant for the book that I am interested in. It has cover art by Jim Mahfood an artist I really like and have now referenced twice today in this thread.

      1. I just got th one copy of batman this week. Didnt bother with green arrow. I got the coloured version. It’s still freaking awesome. I figured figured in the pencil were more rare for these but they’re split evenly. I guess I’m could be more to try and get OA, but I feel like I’d just being throwing money away on multiple copies of the same books. I still have an unopened Harley little black book though. Should I open it or hold on to it? Would love to hear what you guys think.

  4. Matt Hawkins will be signing his new comic “Symmetry” at my local comic shop, The Comic Bug, tomorrow (December 9th). Any interest out there for signed copies?

  5. Since some of you guys are ventilating on the ebay experience, we I had this guy who bought an item and he emails me a week later that it’s a wrong item cuz the one he wanted was not what I had for sale. I told him that it was his mistake but that if he sent me back the item I would refund him the $. It took 2 weeks and didn’t receive anything so I emailed him and nothing. I refused this return request cuz even though it was his mistake I still was going to give him his $ back and didn’t get nothing back in 2 weeks and emailed him and nothing. I still went above and beyond and nothing. Guess he didn’t want his $ back and just wanted to complain about the item. Few that felt good to let it out. Lol.

    1. Recently had a guy purchase two books from me and didn’t wait to combine the shipping, he just paid outright. I refunded the second shipping to him and mailed the books together, even saying this was for combined shipping. He emailed me when the books arrived and said “I got one copy where is the other?” I explained they were mailed together and he said no, he had just relieved one copy in one package. Nothing I could do. I didn’t take pictures of the books together in the package and no way I would be able to prove it to eBay if he filed a dispute. I had to bite the bullet and offer a refund or to ship another copy. He said he wanted the other copy. Karma is a bitch and I know it will catch up to him as I sent him the copy from my personal collection.

      1. That is why I ALWAYS take pictures of my packing process. I never want to get caught in a situation like this. I haven’t sold a ton, but so far I haven’t been burned. And I even sent a shipment to Spain!

      2. Even pictures don’t prove anything though. Anyone could have multiple copies and snap pictures of them, I mean unless it’s a true “one of a kind” type item you are selling.

If they pay quickly without waiting to combine and want two packages, just give them two packages I say. I always wait for them to confirm that I’m combining and I’ll refund once it arrives. Only happened a few times, most smart people know when to wait to pay when buying from same seller.

      3. Can you ban or refuse a sale to a particular buyer after something like that? You should be able to.

          1. That’s good to know. I’ve never personally had any issues, but at least now I know my options if/when they occur!

      4. Brennen, you can also block buyers who have unpaid strikes against them in the past year as well. I had a bidder once telling me he kept getting errors when trying to buy something I had listed. The error clearly indicated he couldn’t bid cause he had over 3 unpaid strikes against him. I kindly told him I would not be lifting my ban since he’s got a track record of not paying. He was not happy, it was quite amusing to get his unpleasant replies back. Stupid people make me laugh and cry, at the same time. 😉

  6. 1. Deadpool #3 (meh)
    2. Guardians of the Galaxy #3 (meh)
    3. Gwenpool Special #1 (I’ve enjoyed her mini stories in Howard the Duck)
    4. Secret Wars #8 (such a good series. I was really annoyed when Marvel said this series would change the status quo of the Marvel Universe. But this series was so good that I actually started looking forward to the new status quo. As it turned out, the Marvel Universe ended up being pretty much the exact same, which is a little disappointing.)
    5. Amazing Spider-man #4 (good start. and beautiful art)
    6. Batman #47 (really like this new villain)
    7. Grumpy Cat #3 (I’ve been trying to get my girlfriend in to comics for over a year now. This is the only series she’s taken an interest in. Go figure.)
    8. Walking Dead #149 (NEGAN NEGAN NEGAN NEGAN NEGAN! In the comic and the tv show!)

Also, my shop had a handful of Harrow County’s #1, 1st prints. So I picked up a couple. Thought that was pretty lucky.

    1. That was lucky on the first print Harrow County’s. I picked one up a few extra a while ago but before the announcement. I really like the series and glad it was picked up. Now just want to see it come to fruition.

  7. Batman 47 (ended up with a pencil cover)
    Twilight Children 3
    Head Lopper 2 (Allred cover)
    Constantine 7 (Swamp Thing)
    Gwenpool Special 1 (Rodriguez cover)
    Monstress 2
    Giant Days 9
    Rachel Rising 38

    Back issues:
    New Avengers Annual 1
Wolverine Origins 25 (poor man’s New Mutants 98)
2 copies of Neon Joe (sitting in the window of my lcs for free)
CGC 9.8 Saga of the Swamp Thing 22

      1. There is a bakery and a coffee shop and an expensive chocolate store and an awesome teriyaki place next to my lcs. I picked up the cannoli from an Italian deli up the street that sells shirts that say, “What the gabagool?”

  8. Deadpool #3:Going to stick for a bit and then sell when the movie comes out.
Faster than light #4: Like the book but the augmented reality stuff is a chore.
No Mercy#5 I may drop this soon. It was getting a little silly for me.
Snow Blind #1:Great solicit. I’m excited for this one.
Twilight Children #3: I’m really enjoying this. It’s very intriguing to me.
We Stand on Gaurd #6: This has been ok, but I won’t miss it.
Violent #1: I’M VERY EXCITED FOR THIS BOOK. Easily my most anticipated pick up this week.
