The Tephlon Funk guys are at it again. This time they have released a set of Hip Hop covers for Tephlon Funk.
Featuring homages to J. Lo, Raekwon, Biggie, and Big L. The books are limited to 75 copies (rumored) and are $7 each. They also have a set of all five for $35.

There are 25 sets and that’s it. Four of the covers have a print run of 100 and the Nas cover has a print run of 75.
You can only add one set or one cover per order. So after the 25 sets are gone, the remaining books can only be bought one cover at time for 7 plus 5 shipping (12 shipped). So get in on a set or get stuck having to make 5 separate 12 dollar orders to get all 5.
The 25 sets are now sold out.
ordered two sets…just got refunded for one of them because they sold out.
just got a second email to refund my other order. So no sets for me
GOT MY SET!
Yeah, I placed an order, and then just received a full refund. Were they over sold?
Yeah, that’s pretty rough. I only ordered one set, and then 40 minutes later got a full refund. I could have swung the 40 bucks, but 12 dollars a copy is past what I can do.
I contacted them to see if there is a way to order all covers without paying separate shipping. There cart system is “broken”
However paying the $12 per cover still may not be bad investment…the original cover is going for $70+ I believe.
Nah, I get it. Wasn’t an investment thing. Just a belated Christmas gift to ship to a buddy in NoVA.
In the refund info they said their site crashed and they went over the 25 limit on sets. Obviously I got screwed as well.
What bums me out though is I bought a single set as a late xmas gift for a buddy. That makes sense if they over sold the sets, I didn’t see a breakdown in mine. It was just ‘here’s your 40 bucks back’. Still kind of a bummer they didn’t limit it to one per person. It sounds like people went all hoarder on it like with the first prints.
They oversold the sets and are refunding beyond the 25, which sucks since they have 100 copies of each and 75 copies of the Nas cover. He told me they want to give everyone a chance which is bs, because if you want to pay extra shipping you can keep buying them one at a time for 12 shipped. It’s just a way for a tiny publisher to milk a few extra bucks on the extra shipping charges.
How much were the sets shipped? I think it works out to be $8 more, but still shouldn’t have to pay extra.
sets were $5 shipping as well ($40 total)
so if you purchase on at a time it comes out to $20 extra than ordering the set.
I ordered a much less “wow” gift for my buddy as a “2 boroughs set” because I really felt like I was getting screwed, but didn’t want to give him a lamer Xmas gift than he was already getting because I was b-hurt. I’d get the “we didn’t anticipate demand” thing, if this were the first printing of the books, but it’s not. It’s not even the second, or third printing. These things have been flying, and nobody’s getting a “better chance” by charging 12 a book. Unless the chance we’re getting is to double down on shipping for every book we want.
I also got refunded on a single set order that I made around 4 oclock. It wouldnt hurt as much if I didnt know that some people were able to swing multiple sets. I guess being on a limited income and actually having to consider buying one killed my chances. I’m kinda done with this now as I also lost out on the first print.
Enough with this already. Clearly figured out how to maximize sales to speculators on this site.
More than just on this site, it aparentally has been making the spec site news rounds. Don’t think “suck it nerds” is the answer to unhappy folks though, Captain Incomplete Sentence. Granted, it is super easy to be callous through the anonymity of the interwebs, but that doesn’t make it any less uncool.
Eh, don’t think “sucks to be you” is the best way to move forward there Cap’t Incomplete Thought. Props on being so cold blooded through a cell phone though.
When did they say “Sucks to be you”to someone?
Total bull stine. I would like to have a reading copy but sometimes you just got to stick to your principles.
Nice
