Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 12/16/15

Each week hundreds of comics hit the stands, all with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones that we feel have the best chance at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 12/16/15:

Going to be a very cheap week for me. Which I haven’t been able to say in a long time. But of course, that is relatively speaking as I spend way more than I should.

Returning Favorites

Beauty #5– This book has it hooks deep in men great story and art. Seriously, you should check it out. With not needing any special effects, this book could easily translate into a movie or tv show.

Goddamned #2– Again, a crazy good read but what else would you expect from Jason Aaron. Gritty, over the top, biblical story (how often do you hear that?)

Vertigo Picks of the Week

Lucifer #1– I have long loved this Sandman tie in and have picked up every series since the original mini. Lucifer is back, and with the character transitioning to TV this could be a good hold book.

Small Press Gem

Boom box Mix Tape 2015– Very impressed by the first one. This comes with a 1:10 variant as well.

Small Press Pick of the Week

Monster World #1– American Gothic Press’ new release. Teaming up Phillip Kim and Steve Niles. Small print runs and good talent. These books have not disappointed and I don’t expect this one to either. Cross the noir of Phillip K. Dick and the otherworldly work of HP Lovecraft and it is not to be missed.

The All-Ages (especially for 30-40 yr olds) Pick of the Week

Grampa Simpson’s Choose Your Own Destiny #1– back in the day, when we wanted a story to play out the way we wanted it to, back when there were few video games that were in depth, there was one book series to turn to, Choose Your Own Adventure. (I always ended up getting the worst outcome). Now the Simpsons are bringing it back Abe Simpson style.

The ones from the Big Two

Harley and Deadpool.

Deadpool #3.1– Mexican Deadpool name Masacre is introduced. People love Deadpool in all shapes and forms. As an added bonus, this is presented In all Spanish, making me once again regret something I did in high school (taking French)

Harley Quinn #23 Little Black Book Variant– Want to see me lose money quickly, bag up some variant covers and offer a chance to get an original art cover. I have been getting at least one of each, color, pencil, and inked versions.

The Hot #2

(Ok that title just sounds gross)

Klaus #2– First book has gone back for a third print. Ultimate Santa is awesome.

The Pick of the Week

Darth Vader Annual #1– Star Wars is hot. No denying it. Sure there will be 250,000 copies printed, but it will sell out and go back to print. First prints are worth holding on to especially as they go back to comics for character ideas.

One From the Book Shelf

Batman The Doom That Came to Gotham– Mike Mignola Classic Batman stories reprinted. His art on these is not to be missed.

That’s it for me this week. As always, let us know what you are spec-ing on.

  1. Can’t wait to read Grandpa Simpson. Multiple times I guess.

Mignola just wrote it. No art outside of covers. Such a hard book to find – until now.
