Wednesday Open Forum

Wednesday

Wednesday, the best day of the week, new comic book day. It is like your birthday in the middle of each week (well, one where you buy your own presents.)

We open things up to hear from you. A free for all.

The 63rd edition of the open forum!

What are your pick ups?
What about back issue raids?
What was sold out at your store?
What was sitting one the shelves in piles?

Or anything else you want to talk about, here is where to do it!

  1. Another big week for me. I might stop picking up a few of the Marvel titles I read, waiting a few months and they’ll be on Marvel Unlimited. The only ones I definitely would keep buying though are Star Wars.

Dark Knight III Master Race #2
    JLA #6
    Jacked #2
    Last Gang In Town #1
    TMNT #53
    Chew #53
    Invisible Republic #8
    Nameless #6
    Outcast #14
    Saga #32
    Sidekick #12
    ASM #5
    Ant-Man #3
    Captain America #4
    Daredevil #2
    Darth Vader #14
    Venom Space Knight #2
    Diesel #4
    Bloodshot Reborn #9
    Self Storage #3
    Blood Feud #3
    Rick & Morty #9
    Spook #1
    Wakfu #1

      1. Yeah, can’t go wrong with Lemire. If he wasn’t writing it, I likely wouldn’t be reading it.

  2. This week actually is a small week. Not on of those weeks where I say it’s small, but it’s the usual amount.

    Chew
    DkIII
    Deadpool
    JLA
    JL3001
    Nameless
    Outcast
    Darth vader
    Superman
    Spiderman

    1. Got pencil JLA, Superman was gone but they’re bringing me one over from their other location. So i’ll let you know next week.

  3. Open or don’t open I know that’s always been a big debate on comics already polybagged but I feel like with these Harley Quinn var. that it won’t be too bad to open them. Are you guys opening yours or leaving them sealed?

    1. I’ve only bought the Batman 47 Harley Quinn polybag. I bought that one because of the Ross cover. So, there was no way in hell I was keeping it locked up.

I ripped that sucker open! Got a inked and a full color.

      No original sketch.

  4. I’ve had some large weeks lately but this week I have one book and one book only…..

    Saga #32.

I’m thankful for a small week going into Christmas. My wallet needs a break!

      1. Man, I wish I could of had my list at 2 books.. I’m behind in my reading again as well but that’s partly due to me catching up on my digital marvel books I neglected the entire summer from Secret Wars titles.

I don’t know about you all but I gambled some today and picked up Daredevil #1. I have a good feeling about this series (the show is likely helping as well), but with a new promising character, Soule writing and given the fact that one shop was completely out of them already… another shop had two left which were really beat up and the 3rd shop still had a stick but 90% of them had a nasty nick on the spine (not a crease but what appeared something chipped off the color)… I grabbed a few better copies and ordered a few more off Midtown.

I also took the plunge and grabbed the only 1:100 #1 Variant as well for Daredevil. I’m not spending $125 on it from Midtown, one shop had it at $60 so I went way over budget today.. Happy Festivus to me… 🙂

  5. – Bloodshot Reborn #9: Poyo helped me keep the faith when this series lagged in the middle of the first arc. It’s picking up steam now. The Analog Man promises to be a pretty interesting “Old Man Logan” type of story.

-Deadpool #4: I see this cover (regular) becoming a classic. With the LGBT representation in readership in comics, I think that people may seek out this cover for reasons other than what was intended. Plus, I just really like it.

-Death-Defying Doctor Mirage #1: I always have to try out a new Valiant #1.

-Fight Club #8 Morris Cover (Santa): This series confuses me and intrigues me with every issue. I’m sure it will all make a lot more sense on a second read-through, but monthly this series lapses a lot. This issue is worth it for the Tyler Durden santa alone.

-Self Storage #3: This and Ex Mortis have solidified that the only books I really really look forward to each month are not superhero books, but the indie books.

-Darth Vader #14: Gotta see how my man, Vader, gets out of this pickle!

-Venom Space Knight #2: this #1 got horrible horrible reviews and I don’t know why. Yeah the story isn’t the next War and Peace, but the art is phenomenally good, and it is a lot of fun. We’ll see if #2 keeps up the pace.

I’ll be back issue hunting for:

    -Imperium #7: Divinity Appearance
-Avengers #144: 1st app. of Hellcat

    1. I’m glad I didn’t start Fight Club. I really wanted to and then decided against it, regretted it, and now am glad I didn’t bite. I haven’t heard too many positive reviews. I’ll probably try and grab it in trade when it’s cheap down the line.

        1. That was the reason I ended up not starting it. I hadn’t read the book and feared I’d be lost.I loved the movie, so if it had been more based off of that I would have been all in.

      1. Chuck P novels are already strange enough. I love Fight Club but this comic is really hard to follow. I stopped picking them up and likely will pick up the TPB so reading them all together, all at once, it flows better for me.

  6. I wasn’t going to buy Hellcat but I was able to nab the Perez variant at cover, which is a sweet cover.

Wakfu was slim pickings at every store I visited. 1st store had a total of 4 copies, 1 was damaged. Another store had zero and the 3rd store also had 4 copies, with two damaged. I was able to snag all the minty fresh copies. So if you’re looking for minty fresh copies in Austin, well, they’re at my house. 😉

Also, Spooked was slim pickings as well, seemed every store, most copies were damaged. I grabbed the best one I could.

    1. I don’t think they care though. Sadly, I’d imagine if they spent more money on training, care taking and packaging, then our comics would see a hike in price as well along with even more delays in shipments. This is why we need more than one distributor.

  7. There are absolutely no new Wednesday releases for the entire Salt Lake Valley, perhaps all of Utah.

Greg left his store incredibly upset today. An endless stream of excuses about the weather from Diamond. It’s a real shame. I don’t know about Black Cat’s accounts, nor is it relevant, but a lot of LCS can’t take a hit like that for a week.

I bought Imperium back issues instead.

  8. One store I went to was sold out of Daredevil #2, so the next 2 stores I went to I got a copy from each one plus another copy of #1. With everyone on here talking about Beauty I decided to give it a shot and I found 1st prints of #1 and #2.

    1. Yeah, everyone should be able to find Beauty still at your local shops. Remember, Image now pumps their first prints to avoid second prints. But this is a good series, would be nice for it to sell out but probably too late for them to do 2nd prints.

  9. Ugh. Got hit with a $50 credit card reversal on PayPal from an eBay sale. The buyer said it was an unauthorized credit card purchase. Never contacted me. The item shipped and was delivered. The eBay account is the same name as the buyer. The address it was sent to matches the eBay and PayPal address. It shows it was delivered. Of course I uploaded the proof but who knows how long it will take them to drop the funds back into my account. I hate selling things sometimes.

    1. Please do share their username so we can all block this buyer. And yeah, for all you know it was some kid buying it with their parents credit card. Hopefully the proof prevails but I’ve learned in the past with credit cards and paypal, disputes can take weeks or months.
