Mel’s Variant Picks of the Week for 12/30/15

What’s up CHU, Mel V back with another great week of comics and variants. Variants do carry risk, some go up, some go down, but as long as you are buying art that you like, you can’t go wrong.
Here is what I am feeling this week!

Carnage Vol 2 #3 1:25 Variant-I’m starting to love this character ever since I got my Lootcrate mug (I know I’m late)this cover has such a great look and feel to it

All-New Wolverine #3 Mike Choi Variant Cover– Choi with another home run cover..this cover is so Elegant ..LOVE IT

Howard the Duck Vol. 5 #3 Rob Liefeld Variant– people will be getting this for Gwenpooland also this is the 1ST APPEARANCE OF NORMAL ROB LEIFIELD FEET. Seriously though, it is already pre-selling for $60. Find it cheap and flip it (this may mean you may need to run Poyo).

  1. I am not running.. plus, the store that sells at cover doesn’t usually order enough after #1 to get most of the variants or they go into people’s pulls.

  2. Remember poyo, hands on the ground, ass in the air, sweatband on tight and optional buddy with gatorade cup halfway between the books and the door.

  3. Howard should be next week. Evidently, there was some kind of mix up and a handful of Marvel titles got released early. Stores are supposed to sit on them for a week. Obi Wan, Spidey, 2099, ASM, Nova, and Rocket & Groot were the others I was told about.

    1. Yeah, if I was a shop I’d set them out. I’m not losing business because Diamond messed up. I’m pretty sure most shops are going to set them out. We all know how well they read their emails.

      1. So yeah, my shops pulled these back. Midtown removed from their site as well. Seems they were going to give shops a beat down if they didn’t comply, that’s according to one of my shops.

      2. Yep. If everyone got them early, they should have just let us sell them. The penalty for early sales is too severe though – it would mess business up. My competitiors pulled theirs after being reminded.

        1. One shop said they’ll cut you off even if caught too often selling comics ahead of release day.

  4. I manage a store that got the handful of Marvel titles a week early. We were told by our Diamond Field Rep that Diamond would be unleashing their squad of secret shoppers this week in an attempt to make sure stores didn’t sell those books early. I’ve had one phone call today asking if we were selling three of the titles today that I figure may have been a secret shopper.

    1. Don’t the companies do that to save shipping time and money next week? So kids get comics one week early, what the hell difference could it possibly make enough to pay a sales rep to actually make prank calls over the holidays? Gotta love it.
