Domino to be in Deadpool 2

Looks like Cable will not be the only X-Force alum that will be joining Deadpool in the sequel to the recently released Deadpool Movie. Domino is rumored to be joining the too.
Heroic Hollywood had an exclusive on it.
The lead was kind of thin with detail, but said the following:

But Cable isn’t the only member of the X-Force that is currently going to appear in the Deadpool sequel. In fact, his teammate, confidant, and lover is going to be in the sequel as well. According to our sources at FOX…
Neena Thurman aka Domino will also be in the Deadpool sequel.

Needless to say, asking prices on the first appearance of the “real” Domino, X-Force #11, has jumped up to $20 (asking price at least). Recent closed eBay sales have been in the $12-17 range. (this makes me happy as I had been snagging cheap copies anytime I saw them.)

  1. Picked up a few a while back for about $3 each. Deadpool looks to be able to compete big-time with any comic book movie so I am curious where this book could be headed price wise by the time Deadpool 2 hits.

  2. Lol at real Domino appearance many prior Copycat Domino appearances no reason for 1st real Domino appearance, that’s like saying the first Captain Marvel doesn’t exist because it’s not Carol Danvers. Also Xforce #8 would be first real Domino briefly not Xforce #11. Domino’s 1st appearance is New Mutants #98 wether it’s real Domino or Copycat as Domino it’s still Domino.

    1. That has been the argument for a while. Cgc says 11 is the first appearance of Domino where as the other ones have been Copycat. Sometimes the market reacts and decides on silly things.

      1. Marvel Database and Overstreet still go with X-Force 8. What’s weird is X-Force 11 is a 1 page cameo, with Marvel being the “home of the 1st full app.”

    2. LOL @ New Mutants 98. You have no idea what you’re talking about.
      Domino’s 1st appearance is X-Force # 11.

      1. You don’t know what you are talking about. X-Force 11, she is on one page, the last page. That means it is a Cameo. She is in X-Force 8, in over half the book, and she talks a lot through out the story. It is a flash-back story, but it is still her. End of story. The market might say that 11 is the first appearance, but that does not make it true. That’s like saying, that if cgc, and ebay sellers say the sky is red, and not blue, then it must be true. Sorry, doesn’t make it true.

    3. Originally I wanted to disagree with you but then I think how Iron Man 55 is only a robot of Thanos but people still see it as his first appearance. You have a bit of a point but I think people want something they can actually buy and flip and NM98 is already very pricey. I don’t think her first visual appearance of Copycat in disguise is really going to push prices up on that book but maybe I’m wrong.

    1. Marvel Age#102 contains a Preview of X-force#1. I don’t see how that would be the 1st appearance of Domino. It was also released after New Mutants#98 so it wouldn’t precede that issue either.

      1. If Marvel Age 102 previews X-Force and the read Domino made her debut in that title then it is the first appearance of Neena Thurman then it would be her first and the real Domino’s first appearance. If not then it’s Domino’s second appearance. At this point I have not read 102 to find out but I think it’s worth a look.

      2. It contains 5 preview pages from X-force#1, and in X-force#1 Copycat was still acting as Domino. But, that Marvel Age issue may still draw some attention since there aren’t as many of those left in high grades, and at that point X-force had only appeared in New Mutants#100 & New Mutants Annual#7. I’ve been grabbing copies of those for over a year. New Mutants only mentions the idea of “X-force” at the tail end, and then New Mutants Annual#7 came out between that issue and X-force#1, so it is really the first tale of X-force in action. I’m surprised more people haven’t jumped on that issue. But there’s usually more interest in finding books that are already on-the-move.

  3. Alana, your argument is not accurate and using examples of another comic should quell the debate. Look at Strange Tales #114, this is the first appearance of Captain America since the Golden Age in 1954, yet it was actually the Acrobat disguised as Captain America. That is why that comic is nowhere near as valuable as Avengers #4, which is the real Cap Silver Age Appearance. If Copycat had been Domino for a long duration, then I may tend to agree that she is the first real Domino, but the real Domino technically existed in the Marvel Universe before the character was introduced and we are told this within 1 year (real world time) from the first introduction to the character, and only a few appearance by the character herself. Neena Thurman is the Domino that has been Domino for the entire run of Domino’s career. I do not agree with you either that X-Force #8 is her first appearance, she only appears in a flashback, which I don’t consider a first appearance. I have never considered test art, flashbacks, or last page panels to be first appearances, hence why Hulk 181 commands so much more than Hulk 180. The market is what decides these things, and CGC usually follows suit. Why should a flashback be considered a first appearance? That would be like saying you’ve met someone in real life by simply being shown a picture of them. I know I am geeking out here lol, but if you love comics like we all do, then put yourself into the universe for a second and think about the first appearances of characters as if you were actually in the Marvel Universe, they don’t see what you as the reader are seeing on a last page splash panel of Wolverine, they are introduced to the character as he really exists in the universe. Ok I will stop being a nerd now… I guess I look at comics a little more intimately than some do.

    1. If issue 8 is a flashback of the actual domino then I’d give it some credit. Depending on how much we see of her it’s either be a cameo or an appearance. We shouldn’t be deciding that because it’s a flashback it should be disregarded. If it’s a printed appearance it’s a printed appearance.

    2. So is Groot’s second appearance not that Hulk Annual? The market seems to think so but it’s not actually Groot. The point is, you cannot use the market or CGC or any other entity which is based on profiting off of comics to accurately determine these things. Take the money making out of it and then decide. If you do I think you will find it a lot easier to get these things sorted out.

  4. Alana, also, that is why CGC does not have “1st Appearance of Domino” on the label, it instead says “1st Appearance of “real” Domino”. I think this distinction is what separates New Mutants 98 from X-Force 11. If the Domino in Deadpool 2 ends up being Vanessa Carlysle instead of Neena Thurman, it would make X-Force 11 not as relevant. I don’t think they will go that route though because the mutant ability of “luck manipulation” would have to be explained into the already existing character that as we know has no mutant abilities.

  5. Hulk 180 is actually a bad example of my point because he is introduced to Hulk in the last panel, but you get my point with other examples though, such as Marvel Age 82 and Cable.

  6. The market demand will tell us all which issue is going to be worth the most regardless of the comic book nerd debates. So keep on debating but be sure to follow the market trend if you are trying to sell.. 😉

    1. Don’t forget the if you want to sell part. I collect first appearances without a flip or any long term profit in mind. As a result of this practice I want the facts!

      1. True, that’s when you attempt to get them all then.
There’s 1st Cameo, 1st Appearance, 1st Full Appearance.. so many types of first appearances.

  7. Regardless of the debate, New Mutants 98 is already getting out of reach from a pure speculation flip standpoint, so even if you consider NM 98 Domino’s first appearance, X-Force 11 in a high grade would be the best buy/flip when the movie comes out for the majority of us I think

    1. Yeah, NM #98 has gotten plenty of love over the years! X-force #11 has had next to none. If the character is liked by the movie going public and she appears in more than just Deadpool 2 down the road, many newer collectors and casual collectors will be seeking out the book..it should see a nice return…especially if one got copies early. Still $10 to $15 for a near mint has potential to flip nicely if she becomes important in the cinematic U. She could also become very popular in the cos play scene. Who knows, maybe she will become as popular as Harley Quinn.. Lol, I Doubt it, but ya never know. Regardless, the book is still pretty low risk price wise and I doubt it will break the bank anytime soon. Still, might be time to get one for those who don’t have a copy yet.

  8. CGC 9.8s for under $100, I think there is at least room for that to double between now and then time they announce her casting, and if they plan to keep her on as a mainstay in a future X-Force movie, this comic could be pretty big

  9. Alana, I think the Domino 1st Appearance arguments are a “let’s agree to disagree” situation. Everyone has their own personal opinion on what “counts” and what doesn’t “count”. The same way that the Marvel Age books have suddenly popped up in value, but it is anyone’s personal opinion whether or not those truly count as actual comic book first appearances of characters.
Chris (and anyone else on these trains-of-thought…), the idea that a character first appearing in a Flashback would not be a 1st appearance of the character is something I do not follow. You make it sound as though *any* character first appearing in a Flashback would *not* be their first appearance. I think you are trying to address the Domino situation without considering other characters. For example, Silver Fox first appeared in Wolverine#10 in a Flashback, and didn’t pop up in the present tense until years thereafter. I would still consider Wolverine#10 to be her 1st Appearance, even though it was a Flashback. We saw the character for the first time in that issue.
In the case of Domino, readers did not yet know that there was any difference between present tense Domino and flashback Domino in #8. It has been a long time since I’ve read that issue, so I don’t remember how extensive her appearance is in that book. In my personal opinion, though, if this story is confirmed to have taken place prior to Copycat taking Domino’s place, then it would be the 1st time we see the Real Domino. For speculation purposes, though, X-force#11 is more prominently regarded as the 1st Real Domino, and has historically received more attention (and more bids) than X-force#8, so that trend is likely to continue.
There are other situations where this gets a bit more ridiculous. People trying to make Revenge Of The Living Monolith be the 1st Appearance of Apocalypse… when he doesn’t actually appear as himself in the issue, and it was only a later retcon that confirmed his shape-shifted involvement in the issue.
To consider a different perspective on the argument of New Mutants#98 Vs X-force#11; let’s say that you were a comic book character and for 12+ issues someone else had been running around posing as you before you actually come onto the scene. They may look like you, but on the inside they are someone else entirely, with different motives/intentions/attitudes. Would you consider that You first appeared in New Mutants#98, or was that just the completely-different-person who happened to Look Like You in that issue? A character is more than just their visual likeness. Consider also if you had characters who were Twins, and they first appeared in separate issues. The second Twin to appear would not be considered to have appeared in the previous issues just because they look identical to that other character; because they aren’t that other character. I can’t think of a good example where Twins have first appeared separately in comics, off the top of my head, but I do remember on Heroes how Ali Larter’s character was one of Triplets, so when she later appeared as another character, this was a brand-new character we had never seen before, even though she was also portrayed by Ali Larter.
Just some food for thought on the whole “Real Domino” situation.

    1. FromTheAshe, these are all really good comments, and I respect your opinion on the matter. In the case of the Silver Fox I would agree that because there was such a large gap between the intro of the character, then Wolverine 10 would be the first appearance. Usually the trend is that a character first cameos and then appears full either the next issue or a few issues later, but Silver Fox is not one of those. Its all opinion based I suppose, but I think we can all agree that full blown first appearances of characters, especially ones with full blown cover art of the character, will always be the collected and thus the most valuable comics to own.

  10. In X-force #8 she appears on the cover and 10 of 18 story pages. She appears on only two pages in #11. The Domino on the cover of #11 is actually Copycat (who appears as Domino on 9 story pages). This is quite a bit different than hulk 180/181, especially since Wolverine isn’t on the cover of #180.

  11. A good way to solve the debate on which is the better book to have #8 or #11 would be to get them both. Neither is all that expensive right now and good chance can still be found in the wild cheaper than Ebay.

      1. Picked up 14 copies of #11 & 17 of #8 today… Some gradable… We’ll see how these move closer to release of dp2…

  12. This was a really great debate chocked full of great info, thank you CHU universe! It is worth noting at the end of the Deadpool movie Copycat was stuck in the same breathing torture chamber that triggered Wade’s mutation, so it’s left open to speculate she will have her powers in the sequel. So Domino’s 1st movie appearance could go either way. To be honest the article that talks up Domino has no confirmed sources, and we can all speculate that the $500,000,000 box office success of Deadpool green lights the X-force movie. An X-force movie will definitely have Domino, is she going to be in Deadpool 2 my guess the end credits scene of DP2 (sounds dirty) Copycat will be shown as Domino leading into the X-force movie and we will get the real Domino in the X-force movie. Again all the Domino could be first appearances have merit but let’s not forget the other members of X-force that will have roles in a X-force movie X-23(OMG!she makes it into a movie all hell will break loose), Wolvie(possible final Hugh as Wolvie movie), Archangel(makes sense with coming xmen movie to tie storylines to the present with Archangel), Shatterstar, Stryfe(We need a villain right?), they could even use Doop who knows. If your looking for cheaper books with future potential looks like New Mutants and X-force books are finally gaining respect and target any and all members of X-force and New Mutants for possible future T.V. And movie roles just to be safe.

    1. I’ve been trying to avoid spoilers, but since it has already been said… yes! I was wondering the same thing! She wasn’t in there very long, but it was an altogether traumatic situation for her; and even when she could breathe again she was still in peril, so it is possible. I was also thinking they may have saved her transformation for the sequel because they didn’t want to distract from Deadpool’s origin; so they could always concoct some other way that she ends up with mutant powers in the sequel to make her full-fledged Copycat. We already know from the comics that her life doesn’t get easier, and there are other antagonists who use her to get to Deadpool. But if they opt never to give Vanessa her powers in the films, it could also be because they present a problem of including a character who is Too Powerful, since she is also able to replicate mutant powers; which is something a shape-shifter like Mystique cannot do.

  13. Been picking up New mutants issues for a while. Bought plenty of NM 87s for 50-60 in near mint condition. I think cheap first appearances are always a good bet. They’re first appearances so they’re great to have in a PC and if they blow up then you score big.

    1. If I had the funds, I would have done the same a few years ago. I kept seeing New Mutants#87 at comic shops for $25 to $30, and remembering how hot that book used to be in the mid-90’s. That’s really what got me into speculation was seeing things pop up in the Dollar Bins that Used To Be Valuable, and lamenting that my personal collection was going for less than I’d paid for it; but then seeing trends where books become popular again, or where recent books pop in value. I keep my PC and my Specs entirely separate, but now speculation has become just another branch of the ways that comic books are embedded in my life. At first I was just gunning for books that were first appearances of characters, then on books that used to be hot and had dissolved, but still had the potential for a comeback; and now through this website & my own judgment & previously working at a comic shop, I’ve kept my finger on the pulse of the comic book community, to try to gauge books’ potential without relying entirely on what was hot before. But when it comes to more costly books, I really don’t have the funds to work with; and I know New Mutants#87 is going to have a huge payoff when Cable makes it to the big screen; that book has plenty of room to move from it’s all-time-low…

      1. Yeah, it is looking as though Deadpool and Cable will be in more than a few movies when all is said and done. Even with high print runs when they came out they will be bigtime collectibles as time moves forward. A high grade New Mutants #98 will probably seem like a bargain at today’s prices compared to where thy are headed. Just a guess, but I think a safe one.

  14. the real Domino’s first full appearance as a flashback is issue 8. domino’s first real-time cameo appearance is issue 11. her first full appearance in real-time is issue 12. Now, CGC, the market, and even marvel at some point might say otherwise. But I have read X-force most of my life, and I know what I have stated above to be true. Just buy the books and see for yourself. Do I think this debate will ever end? No. But I do know and trust what I see with my own eyes.
