Ray from RJ’s Comics and Toys sent this little tip over on how to cut supply costs if you are buying and selling a lot of comics.
Hey guys. A lot of us buy and sell a ton. One thing we always can never have enough of is bags and boards. I have found a bag that is cheap and I find a little more durable then BCW (in my opinion). Cardboard Gold. I get 1000 Bags for $33 shipped off eBay. If you buy and sell a ton I suggest you look into these bags. They fit Midtown and BCW current boards with no problem. One of the best ways to maximize profits is to cut down on supply expenses. Bags and boards, while vital, can eat into your profit margins even if it is just a little.
This one is for us mad sellers!!
Ray
(Editors note: I have gone through 1,000 bags and boards between September and now. Paying full retail for bags stinks and I always try to find low cost, yet protective bags and boards for selling comics.)

One tip I have for those that don’t sell heavily is if you order from Midtown, I always reuse their bags and boards to use for comics I sell. They’re a little wider than the Current standard and I use these to slip my already bagged and boarded comics in to sandwich the comic between two boards and bags for that extra protection.
Midtown also has sales at least twice a year on supplies at like 50% off or more. If you’re not on their mailing list it is a good resource.
Thanks for the tip. I spend about $15 on 100 bags and board and go threw them every other month. This will save me some $. Thanks Ray
Great tips Ray and Poyo, thanks!
For non-sellers, one common way to save money is to use larger silver or golden age bag to store several comics instead of current bag.
I don’t like to do this anymore because I’ve had colors rub off from comics before. Usually black seems to be the guiltiest culprit. Maybe I just had some bad luck?
For a while there, Marvel was having a huge problem with ink loss. You couldn’t hold a book to read it without getting finger-tip-sized white marks where the ink came off on your fingers. Some of the worst examples made me think they were using chalk to add color to the books, and it just wipes away, lol. Obviously that isn’t the case, but it was driving me nuts for a while. They’ve gotten better now, but those solid black back covers were exceptionally horrible, and even without touching them, they’d get ink all over the backer board just from sitting there.
I was buying two copies of Wytches for the exact reason, damn black back covers. Looked like I was fondling the books instead of reading them

I’ve really noticed ink loss on some of my books. Wytches was really bad. I had fingerprint smudges all over their mostly black books.
