Comics Picks Of The Week For 4/27/16

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to the potential. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 4/27/16.
A really good small press week.
Returning Favorites
Saga #36– Cannot beat BKV’s now epic story.
Outcast #18– TV show starting soon. Just like the Walking Dead these issues could become key books.
Low #13– Like BKV and Robert Kirkman, Rick Remender weaves a wicked tale. This underwater epic is amazing and keeps getting better.
The One Everyone is getting
Spider-Woman #6 J Scott Campbell Connecting Variant– 3/4 of the way to the full connecting inage now. I can’t give up. These are growers and not showers. JSC is always in demand and these could be of value in the future.
Harley Quinn #27– This appearance of DC’s Deadpool “homage” Red Tool won’t take retailers by aurprise like last time. Just keep an eye out for them.
The Nostalgic Ones
Darkwing Duck #1– Kids book, sure, but there are a ton of people in their 30’s and 40’s who fondly remember this. There has been some good returns on the previous series.
Micronauts #1– Believe it or not these are precursors to both Transformers (there is a family tree connection) qnd the Marvel Microverse. Guys in their 40’s had these toys as kids and loved them. Die Cast action figures with magnetic features. Anyway, there have been other series of Comics about them (Marvel and DDP) but with the recent success of Power Rangers, I am keeping my eye on them.
The Returning One
4 Kids Walk Into A Bank #1– Yeah, some for it last week. not all of us. But because of that, and its sold out, it is back on the list for this week.
The One With The Walking and the Dead
Image Plus #1– Its a catalog, previews for Image Titles. It is $1.99. But, it contains the first part of Negan’s origin and you know that’s going to be worth something.
The on the Fence One
Power Lines #2– First issue had a microscopic print run for a new Image book bit just didn’t get the traction I was hoping it would. Still going to check out this interesting book.
The Small Press Gems
Killbox #1– AGP puts out some great small press books. This one looks killer. Great art and an interesting story.
Legend #1– Red Rover Charlie and WE3 fans should love this one. How would dogs and cats go about rebuilding the world?
The Pick of the Week
Sabertooth Dan #1– Scout is a great small press company putting out great small books like Hench Girl. They have a media development wing to turn their properties into something more. Tiny print runs and media deals can equal good money down the line. This is a grower and not a shower. Calvin and Hobbes meets Lord of the Rings.
Ones for the Book Shelf
Camp Midnight– Had this been a single issue it would have been the pick of the week. Steven Segal created Ben 10 and Big Hero 6. So when he does a new all ages property, keep an eye on it.
Black Magick Vol. 1– I love this series by Greg Rucka. Damn fine reading each month. Here is a cheap way ($9.99) to read this fine series. Cop Witches, or Witch Cop, either way it works and is intriguing.

  1. Image Plus also has a story on my girlfriend Marjorie Liu.. like Daryl would say, “claimed”. 😛

  2. I’m curious to see the Image catalog. Before long the actual previews book will have nothing left. The Walking Dead back story is a cool touch. It’s free with a copy of Previews right? $1.99 if you want it by itself? ( I was out sick yesterday so I missed a Wednesday. i’ll be stopping tonight on the way home after work).
