Mel does a great job with his Big Gems column, but I like to supplement with some of the great books coming out from the medium sized publishers, with some small press mixed in. Check out what we are looking forward to:
Ok, first I know it is not a small or midsize book, this is large press but have to have it on the list as I am looking forward to it:

Brik #1
Drew is a bullied kid in the Yonkers neighborhood of New York City whose family faces encroaching violence from Russian gangsters. Before his beloved grandfather is killed in an attempt to muscle the family out of the neighborhood, he’s able to pass down to Drew the story of a mysterious but dangerous protector who helped their people during other troubled times.

Horizon #1– A new original series from Skybound? Yeah, I am in.

Kim & Kim is a day-glo action adventure that’s bursting with energy and enthusiasm. It puts queer women and trans women front and center, with a story that embraces the absurd alongside realistic pathos. It’s a mature book that focuses on the power and meaning of female friendships as engines of validation.

WE’VE BEEN INVADED AND ONLY A SPACE KNIGHT CAN SAVE US! First there was his epic return in this year’s FCBD #0, and now the ongoing tale of ROM begins in earnest! Bounty, Kim and Kim, and ROM all caught my eye as some potentially enjoyable books!
You should see the other covers for Evil Heroes #1. The Evil Wonder Woman cover is great!
The Superman cover is pretty good too
