Looks like Cinemax could turn into the place for Comic Book TV shows, picking up the option for Scarlet by Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev. Bendis is no stranger to optioned shows as his Powers is on Playstation Network.
There are almost no single copies of Scarlet #1, the character and the titles first appearance.
From Deadline.com
Marvel/Icon title Scarlet is headed to television. It is currently being developed as a series at Cinemax. Marvel Comics writer and creator Brian Michael Bendis, who co-created Scarlett with artist Alex Maleev, let the news slip today that the property is being developed as a series at HBO. Deadline has confirmed that the project indeed is in development but at HBO sibling Cinemax. Bendis, co-creator of the Marvel character Jessica Jones and the long-running Marvel/Icon title Powers, both which have been adapted for television, spoke of the potential Scarlett TV series at the ATX Television Festival in Austin.
Speaking about his ongoing comics work, Bendis said “I do a book called Scarlet which is soon to be announced also in our universe of television. Not announced yet, but HBO.” Bendis was careful to add that the project is “at the earliest stage,” but that “the team around it…will be announced as soon as all are on the same page.”
First published in 2010, the series follows a rebellious young Portland, Oregon woman named Scarlet Rue who ends up sparking a second American revolution. Drawing comparisons to (among other things) The Punisher in tone, the series is known for confrontational politics and intense violence. As Bendis put it during today’s panel, “Scarlet is a list of things you can’t get made. Here’s a female lead who’s killing cops because her world is broken.” But, he says, “when it was sold it was sold to people who were actively looking for that, so that put us in a good place. So stay tuned.”
So it is HBO or Cinemax? The article claims both.
Claims Cinemax, HBO’s sister channel
Also what’s first the hardcover #1 or comic book? The hardcover 1st print date is July 20, 2010
I believe the floppy came first.
The Deodato cover for #1 is solid. Snatched up pretty quickly though.
Off topic.. but I stood in line for 3 hours yesterday to get Mr. Bendis signature on some Civil War II #1 books.. he laughed at the rumor about Mary Jane being the big kill in issue #3.. said we need to stop reading Bleeding Cool. 😉
I will be honest I think bleeding cool got it from Larry of Larryscomics.net and the one thing I will say is Bendis wouldn’t squeal if it was true. Bendis is a company man. Also thanks for getting me that signed Civil War issue.

He did say this…. if he stays quiet, they claim the rumor is true but if he disputes the rumors, everyone still doesn’t believe him 🙂
It was nice meeting him though, really nice guy. The line wasn’t long as in people wise, it really took 3 hours cause he spent time talking to each person, made it very personal greet and meet. Pretty cool of Bendis to do that.
I have been watching 6 issue Scarlet sets all day going for $90 – $100. I guess these are scarce issues. They go up, and they’re sold within an hour or two
I’ve been finding these in the wild for months. Don’t overpay. They’re out there.
I really think I have this somewhere. Now that they’ve got more shows on cinemax I wonder if it will raise the viewing for Outcast.
I have one too and been looking for it to list as they are selling so fast.

I’ll probably follow your lead on this. Too good to pass up I guess.
i belive there is a sdcc variant as well. I remembergeting a scarlet #1 at the bendis tapes panel back at sdcc 2010
List it. They are selling like crazy.
$50 a pop and no signs of slowing down yet. Unlike Outcast, this book wasn’t hoarded by slabbers from the get-go and it being 6 years old, it may take some digging to find high grade copies
I a actually have a really good copy I have had since it came out.
