The 93rd edition of the open forum!
Want to give a shout out to comic book genius Brian Springman and Kevin F. for help with posts this week. I appreciate you guys.
Another great week for comic sales. Solarman has been selling well. Plutona hasn’t jumped as much as an announcement used to drive up prices but it is still selling for 3x cover price.
As always we also want to hear about your weekly pickups.

    1. The 2 color GameStop variants Harley #29 I bought one came shoved in the mailbox folded in half covered in color breaking spine ticks the other survived with some make shift pressing for a couple days to fix the warping still has one spine tick. They Shipped with no protection whatsoever in 2 separate mailings for some bizarre non cost effective reason. Would ask for a refund but my last GameStop order previous to this one ended in a refund after they couldn’t ship items purchased on Black Friday in time for Christmas.

      1. Mine came the same way. In a flimsy bubble mailer with spine tics and dents galore.

        1. Same here. I did a paypal dispute on the sale after contacting their customer serif email and not hearing anything back.

      2. I’ve only heard horror stories. Remember, this is a video game store, they probably only view comics as reading material and not collectors items that should be nuke proof when shipped. I stay away from ordering comics from them, Hot Topic and most other stores run by teenagers who don’t care. 😉

      3. Was lucky. One of my local game-stops had one and it was in pretty good shape…a couple of minor spine ticks, but that’s it. Even the sales clerk was surprised it wasn’t beat to hell. He said even when they get their comics in the shipping is so poor half are always damaged and the other half have minor dings, but rarely do they get “perfect” comics in.

    1. Yeah, I secure two copies at one shop. With these already selling for $30 and up on eBay, these are the ones to nab if you find them, even when you just want to read so you’re not paying eBay premium.
      Otherwise, one might want to purchase the HC directly from the creators website. You can spend $31 CAD and he’ll sign and sketch it as well. $45 CAD with shipping, shipping a little steep but he is in Canada.

                2. Sadly, from years of working at my family’s retail store I had grabbed every Canadian coin I could and have them in a box. Should have tried to pay in unrolled Canadian coins in a cigar box. Subsequently, anyone in Canada that lives near a coin star that can hook me up?

        2. Current converter puts $14 CAD at $10.74 USD, so not too bad on shipping and definitely not bad HC that is signed and sketched at $31, which would be $23.79 USD.

      2. Once Our Land is the only comic I’m ordering. A hardcover Kickstarter for cheap and it comes with a sig and a sketch plus some spec opportunity? I’d be stupid not to.
        Other than this one I’m still on a search for Batman Europa 3 1:25 and other back issue Mattina and Noto covers. Plus dollar bin stuff. Found a Man of Steel 18 5th print in a dollar bin not long ago. Craziest find ever.

        1. Would that be the Mattina variant for Batman Europa correct? I’ll look out for one if you want when I hit the shops tomorrow.. what price range you looking at?

      3. Yessir. The Mattina variant is super sick. I’m thinking $50-$75. If you find it I’d pay you for it and make it worth your while too. Well, in a give a comic to you sort of thing. That sounded too weird……I’ll stop now

      4. Didn’t take much convincing for me to buy one of the hardcovers! It seems that these are the left over Kickstarter books. Reading the creators posts he ordered 500 copies. Kickstarter had a total of 432 backers. So, that would leave 68 extra. I didn’t pick it up for spec’n…the story sounds intriguing and the art looks great! However, if this does gain steam, having the first printed material with a print run of 500 would be pretty sweet! For me, this was a win/win purchase. thanks for the heads up!

        1. Here is the odd thing that scares me a little. I typed in 500 copies into the order box and it added them to my cart. I am hoping he does not over sell and cause people to be upset.

        2. Not all backers backed enough for a HC though, so it’s more than 68 more than likely.

      5. I ordered 1 unsigned and 1 signed/doodled with shipping for $55 US… .77 CAD for every $1 US. Once people realize the #1 comic isn’t the 1st appearance maybe the HC will get some love.

        1. I am hoping you are right. I hope people realize it is thee first printed appearance and not a reprint collection. Thankfully there is a huge knowledge base out there to set them straight

      6. Well I typed in 50,000 copies and I could buy those HC for 1.3M. Doubt the inventory system is working correctly at onceourland.com

      7. Hopefully enough people haven’t caught wind of the private site yet now that the book is gaining more interest. If his inventory calculator isn’t set up to stop selling when inventory runs out then I hope he is keeping tabs and eventually taking down the option to purchase once it sells through.

      8. I emailed onceourland.com, Peter replied back: I have no plans on doing a second run at the moment. Scout Comics will be releasing a 72 page comic of Once Our Land and then after that, if the demand is still high, I might do one at the same time as I print the sequel to Once Our Land in a year from now
        So it looks like 500 is it and It seems from their kickstarter page they’ve had to do a few replacements for damaged copies in the mail .

          Well, my secured two copies were gone, they said they sold out before my request came through but I was lucky enough to secure 3 copies elsewhere. Another shop got none.

          1. My one LCS had sold their copies before the door opened up. I had emailed early enough (end of last week) that they held two copies for me. Couple of guys in the store were bent out of shape I had them and there were none on the shelf. Other LCS did not get any and asked me “what is that” when I asked about it

      9. Of my four local shops only one placed an order for it and that was just a handful. He was sold out within a couple of minutes. Looks like the hard cover is the only one I will be getting which is fine. Just hope it arrives undamaged.

For those that do not Ashley Witter released a 3rd Harley #1 Variant limited to 1000 copies only $15 and some change + shipping NO LIMIT!!! the only reason these are not sold out yet is no one really knows of them could be a speculators dream, also a percentage of all the money goes directly to the up and coming artist.

      1. I think it should be called exclusive fatigue. A variant is an alternate cover that is distributed to all shops. An exclusive is only at one shop. With as many as 70 exclusives for Harley I can see people getting weary.

    1. I stuck to the Comic Mint cover and the Aspen.. I’m good, I’m not even a Harley fan.. I still like the Comic Mint variant the best, her beating up Joker is just classic.

      2. I still stuck to my guns!…Just the Witter B&W and the Del Otto color. I don’t think I got a third one….Wow, can not even remember. I think that is a sign I have been buying wayyyy too much the past couple of months…Of course more to come when SDCC is going on when they release little tidbits of who is coming to the Big and Small screen…sigh.

  10. I too bought the signed HC. Looks like an amazing read and I like to support local talent.
    Besides the Rebirth releases, all I’m getting is Black Hammer #1 and Snotgirl #1 today.

  11. Striaght up I let DC Comics know that Twice a month is great, but we want Quality not Quantity. Now there changing Artist on comics Before The First Arc!? And alot are not for the best. Look at the issues coming out in September October. You have some going back to the original artist some changing to a different artist. Cut the B.S, you can keep your twice a month comic, is it so hard to ask to Finish One Arc with the same writer and penciler!? Epic Fail

    Missing page from Sabretooth Dan 2 (It came with a signed sketch on the back. However, it was shipped in a cardboard mailer that was damaged in transit. The page was creased. Happy to get it, though, and was surprised at how much the creator had to pay to ship it, probably out of pocket. I like to support passionate, independent creators.)

    1. Oh. And I ordered a Paul Pope color Harley, the only toe I am dipping in that water.

  17. No (Once Our Land#1) in my area. The only store that had them sold out within 10 mins of opening. Oh well. Don’t have the extra money for ebay right now since I went crazy and bought my boys the first 3 complete series of Pokemon. They’ve been watching them non stop all week lol

    1. Since the market is now flooded and now my once lowest starting bid price has been undercutted, if mine doesn’t end up selling, I’ll ping you and give you a deal on it.

  19. rough estimate on kickstarter backers for Once Our Land that will receive the HC looks to be about half the print run. The total cost for 2 signed copies plus shipping to the states was $58.57 US ($76 CAN)

  20. I picked up the only copy of Once Our Land at my lcs. Also, there were only 5 copies of Suicide Squad 22 with the awesome cover. I’m thinking people will be looking for them later. Forgot about Prophet too. Still picking that up.

    1. Understand how you feel. In the past I may or may not have felt the need to sneak an abnormally large haul of Wednesday loot into the house to avoid the wifes eye of judgement…
      About a week ago I found an entire Vision run numbers 1-6 in a shop a little off the beaten path. They can be found.

      2. I’m in the same boat.. between selling comics and selling computer hardware I accumulate.. wife has no problems with the stacks I bring home.. she almost fainted when I told her the amount of money I’ve amassed in my paypal account since last November. 🙂

  26. Picked up Solarman #1, Once Our Land #1, Supergirl #6 for daughter, Batman #3 for PC.
    Put Once Our Land #1 up for auction at 6:12PM for $24 and it sold at 6:18PM. Just saying, I think that’s the hot book of the week.

  28. My big pickup for the day? A new compressor for my wife’s van! Yeah buddy. Can’t live in North Texas without A/C in your car. Picked up some Rebirth titles as well. No Solarman or Once Our Land at my 2 shops.

    1. I hear that.. no A/C is a death wish and you almost need it to flush out the humidity, that alone creates what I like to call.. “Instasweat” here in Austin, the moment you step outside, you start sweating. At least I do. There’s a reason I can go year round wearing cargo shorts and flip flops (yes, I wear flip flops year round, unless there’s snow on the ground, my feet do not get cold).
