Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 12/14/16

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the shelves, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up.  Here are our picks of the week for delivery 12/14/16

Small spec week for me but plenty of good read books. Here is what I am specing on. Let us know in the comment section what you are spec-ing on this week.
Returning Favorites:
Black Eyed Kids #9 – Awesome horror series from Aftershock. Will make a great TV show or movie some day. Good read with good art. Cannot pass up.
Clean Room #14 – This quirky series keeps me hooked each month. Strange happenings caused by demonic/alien/other-dimensional-beings trying to take over the world.
Motor Girl #2 – A girl and her giant talking ape, or is he just a figment of her imagination, meet aliens in the junk yard. Terry Moore’s classic good girl art and fun writing makes this book a must pick up.
Reborn #3 – Mark Millar’s awesome new series. Has been optioned (or will be shortly as all Millar titles are) and makes the early issues desirable. Great art, good story, makes the book compelling.
Moonshine #3 – Crime Noir/Werewolves/Bootlegging period piece is a very good read. Art fits the story and is just as gritty. Also check out the Jock cover this week.
Die Kitty Die #3 – Loving this “more adult” Harvey comics homage book that is also satirical of the comics industry as a whole.
Descender #17 – This was optioned a long time ago by Sony but no news since. However, it really is one of the best damned books on the market.
Can it re-catch the heat?
Young Terrorists #2 – The first issue came out strong with a mini graphic novel sized book that people went crazy for. Now the second issue is finally being released, after 14 months on hiatus. Spec fans have turned against many Black Mask titles so it remains to be seen if it is too little too late.
Hillbilly #4 – Another Spec darling that has cooled off. Can this one re-catch the heat of the early issues? Still a fantastic read with crazy awesome art by Eric Powell.
Small Press Gem
Rockstars #1 – the concept alone grabbed me. This is the new Image book to check out this week, and may just be worth the pick up for both reading and spec. Already selling out at many online retail stores.

The Pic of the Week

Black #3 Uncensored variant– I love seeing artist push their art. This cover will make people uncomfortable and may not be heavily ordered. It is already a small press (Black Mask) book so the title being split between two covers will make the censored one even more rare.

  1. More like 16 months for Young Terrorists.. first issue I believe came out in August 2015.
And yes, I’ve lifted the boycott (mostly since Capullo is drawing) on Millar for Reborn but I didn’t find issue #2 as good as #1, so I hope it’s not killing itself.. but definitely will get #3 to see if it picks back up cause #2 was a total letdown from #1, at least for me.

  2. I can not remember if I ordered Rockstars. I really wanted to and I remember going back and forth on whether I should. I’ll have to wait until I get to my LCS to see if I have a copy or not.

      1. It’s not even that.. the 3rd print #1 that hit shelves last week.. none of my shops got it. Once shop is still trying to get rid of the #1 1st prints.. there was no demand at a 3rd print, they did it just because #2 took so long to hit shelves, they wanted #1 last week and then #2 this week so the uninformed pick these up.. That’s what really irks me about it.

  3. Thanks for constantly picked BLACK-EYED KIDS as a recommendation each time an issue is released. So happy you’re enjoying the series and thanks for the kind words.
