Comics Picks of the Week for Delivery 5/31/17

Each week hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 5/31/17.
Ugh… The dreaded 5th week. The fifth week is the fifth Wednesday of the month. as opposed to putting out the regular issues that would come out the last week of the month, as it would mess up shipping schedules, they put out one shots, specials, annuals, and the likes. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t some good books coming out. Here is what we have on tap:
Returning Favorites
Aliens Dead Orbit #2 – Oh man, James Stokoe on Aliens is so good. The art and story on the first issue were just awesome.
Black Science #30 Spawn Variants – Love the series, would pick it up anyway, but with the addition of the Spawn Month covers, I will be picking up two copies, one of the color and one of the black and white.
Star Wars Dr. Aphra #7 – I don’t regularly collect Star Wars, but this Screaming Citadel storyline is incredible.
Namwolf #2 Mignola Variant – Fabian Rangel story with a cover by Mike Mignola… Yeah, I will take that any day.
The One for the Cover
Vampirella #3 Jimmy Broxton Virgin Coverand subscription covers – Vampi doing grind house. You have bondage and old school nazi dominatrix all wrapped up in this cover. It is like every late night movie ever. Honestly, I like the subscription cover with the logo as much and if not more than the virgin.
The Cheap Spec
Saga #43 – For a quarter, less if you pre-order them here. Cannot go wrong with the beginning of a new story line couple with a cheap price. Buy 4 or 5 and give them out or stick them away for later.
Small Press Picks of the Week
In a week with not a lot going on, two books rose (slightly) to the top (short trip) to be the small press comics picks of the week (it is a 5th week).
Blood Bowl More Guts More Glory #1 – Titan book that sold out online quickly. Weird football/thunderdome mash up book.
and….
Little Nightmares #1 – Video game tie-in books can certainly be hot. This is a highly anticipated game, so the tie-in comic could be a winner.
The Pick of the Week
Spawn #1 Thank you Edition – a special one per store variant for Spawn #1 Directors Cut. Ask your local shop for theirs, hopefully it will not be crazy priced. They are going for $100 on eBay. This shiny foiled cover is catching people’s attention. Spawn fans are rabid, and often do not let things slip out of their hands, many of these will stay in collections.

  1. Going to see if I can find a spawn #1 thank you edition for a good price tomorrow.

  2. If these two Titan (Little Nightmares and Blood Bowl) books do heat up, don’t expect it to last long as it seems all too often they fade quickly for Titan books.. Maybe one of these is a game changer for Titan though.

    1. Who did the cover art for the Spawn Thank you? If it’s Todd, I want one for my PC.

    1. Lol. i love all books $1 and cheaper. The True Believer editions from Marvel for example. I have picked them all up. Even ones I already have the original issues of

        1. lol yeah it does. I do the grocery shopping for our family and I love to wait and enter my savings card and use coupons at the end of the order to watch the total drop down pretty significantly.

      1. Coupons? They still make those? I buy food I want to eat, not food picked out for me because there’s a coupon. 😉

        1. I don’t buy food because of coupons. But I use coupons on food we use. Things like Tp and paper towels that we are not “brand loyal” on we get the ones we can get the cheapest.
