Wednesday, the best day of the week, new comic book day. It is like your birthday in the middle of each week (well, one where you buy your own presents.)
We open things up to hear from you. A free for all.
The 142nd edition of the open forum!
Sweet, all the Solar Flares have gone out, either to the buyers directly or to James Haick and Jeremy Abbott for signing. So that is a huge relief.
As always we also want to hear about your weekly pickups.

  1. I’ve been shopping pricey books last couple of weeks. Throwing offers around left and right and Found some great deals through eBay, Amazon, back alley PayPal deals. This weeks pick ups…
    Tales of Suspense #39 1st Ironman looks to be a 5.0-6.0 but most likely has a trim. I don’t care trim or not it presents beautifully another major key down. I also like that the fan theory of Peter Parker in Ironman 2 was revealed to be true.
    Xmen #1 CBCS 3.0 another Grail down.
    Flash #106 1st Grodd appears to be a 9.0+ with a slight color touch. Again don’t care about the color touch where do you find this scarce book in high grade for super cheap? Back alley PayPal deals to foreign countries lol.
    Detective Comics #359 1st Barbara Batgirl again has slight color touch again super high grade 9.0 and again an amazing deal
    Amazing Spider-Man #15 CGC 5.0 1st Kraven Guy listed it on feebay had 20+ watchers in a couple hours wasn’t going to pass on this deal will never happen again.
    Venom #6 Mattina store exclusive cover C and cover D both 9.8 cgc got a great deal on these through texting a guy who lists his phone number on feebay listings. It’s nice to go around eBay.

    Also picked up the other SDCC exclusive Living dead doll Cuddles to go with the exclusive Harley Quinn Living Dead doll, also a Pennywise one came up for preorder so bought that as well. I’ve read articles on other sites about people investing 5k in comics and what they got, believe it or not all this came in at around $5300. Now someone give me Amazing Fantasy #15 or Hulk #1 for a good deal already and I can be done!!!

  2. Outside of Amazing Fantasy #15, Incredible Hulk #1 and Spiderman #1 many of the mega Marvel keys can still be found at good prices. When I say “good prices” I mean in lower to mid grade they won’t run the price of a new car. Surprised that Avengers #1 can still be found for about $1300 in a non restored 2.5. I know there are no true first appearances in it, but with the movie success it has brought that franchise into a whole new light… Anyway, still thinking of an X-men #1 at some point. I remember buying a cover-less Incredible Hulk #1 for $5 back in the eighties…Those were the days! Congrats on the pick ups! This week I bought a few copies of AMS #361 before the prices crept up. CBCS 9.6, CGC 9.2 and an ungraded that looks to be in high grade for a very good price..Will add them to the ones I got on the newsstand years ago and see how much I can make right before the reviews for the movie come out!

    Poe Dameron / Doctor Aphra – 40th anniversary covers. These covers have been quite cool & the completist in me says get them all. Some do well individually but I have feeling down the line a complete collection could heat up.
    Harley Quinn #22 – for my teenage daughter who perhaps unsurprisingly loves Harley
    Power of the Dark Crystal #4 – for the wife as she is big Dark Crystal fan & thought this would be a good introduction to comics for her!
    Spawn Director’s Cut Foil – the release date on forbidden Planet is next week but all nicely pre ordered.
    Image + #15 – will finish this off for the Negan story even though the trade is coming whilst still wrestling with what to do about the Image 25th anniversary box

    I tried to post the names of the recent winners in the comments of those drawings, but it would seem I’m not allowed to anymore. There are no comment sections on those posts when I view from my phone. Sorry. Maybe Tony can confirm if it’s just my phone or if he disabled comments for those posts.     Saga 44
    Rick & Morty 27 (the touring Rickmobile makes a stop near me and there is a live streaming R&M event online tomorrow; thinking about picking up a Rickmobile tour shirt and a Mr. Meeseeks Box ‘o Fun Game or maybe a second tour shirt for my daughter since she can’t go and they limit purchases to only 2 items)
    Eleanor and the Egret 3 (Sam Kieth)
    Scooby Doo Team Up 27 (PLASTIC MAN!!!!!)
    Maybe:
    Edge of the Venomverse 1 (thinking about picking this up solely because James Stokoe draws # 5)
    Aquaman 25 (reintroduction of Dolphin; interested just because I spent a lot of time looking for a good copy of Showcase 79 a couple of years ago for the cover)
    Power of the Dark Crystal 4 (I read the first 3 issues. They were good, but I don’t know if I am up to buying the whole 12 issue run.)

  8. Hahaha! Something to look out for solely for its novelty. My lcs set out a free comic today, an official IDW one-shot that ties into the new movie somehow: Schick Hydrobot and the Transformers. It contains the first appearance of a transforming Schick Hydro razor!

      3. They were scarce in my area. I hit 4 shops. 2 stores had zero copies ordered. I grabbed the lone copy from another shop and the big store only had about 5 copies. I grabbed 1 from there too. ?

    Secret Weapons #1 cover A “Secret Variant”-Valiant secretly hid a random number of these issues. To distinguish a regular cover A from the hidden secret variant look carefully on the inside cover after “first printing”. Some have an interesting code filling the language. It’s a deliberate part of a cool promotion and will add to the story.

      1. I saw only one in the entire stack of copies at my LCS. There were about 20 copies in total on the shelf.

  19. I saw the new Transformers movie over the weekend. In my opinion if you have not been yet …….STAY AWAY!!!! I thought the first one was great, but each one after has gotten worse.

      1. There is an Advance Auto Parts store deal where you can get a free Transformer action figure exclusive. Search eBay for Valvoline Transformer and look at closed auctions. And yes, Michael Bay sucks. I haven’t watched any of the transformers movies because of him.

      2. Ah, yes. The ever elusive Valvotron. The greasy autobot. i don’t want to know what, or who, valvotron is lubing up. Lmao.
