Poyo's Picks for August 2nd, 2017

It’s that time again, every week, we rush to our local comic book stores to spend all our hard earned cash. I’m still recovering from my U.S. Expedition Trip and next week I go back on vacation for 5 days at the beach. I just can’t catch a break people.. I need a vacation from vacations.
So let’s get on with these picks…
DC/Vertigo Pick
Batman Elmer Fudd Special #1 (DC) 2nd Print – The first print was a sleeper hit. I picked several of these Looney Tune specials previously, not really based on if they’d heat up but because I’m a fan. I was never a Fudd fan though, so I skipped this one as the previous ones pretty much did nothing but bring us entertainment, not profit to our wallets. This one might be a hit, a lot of people who missed out on the first print will seek this one but 2nd prints are hit or miss, if they were under ordered again, we can probably bet it might catch some heat. If shops over ordered, we’ll find these sitting on the shop shelves for weeks to come.
Marvel Pick
Darth Vader #4 (Marvel) – Not a whole lot going on in Marvel this week, it’s a rather small week for Marvel. But every Star Wars fan who loves Vader should be following this new series. From Episode III to Episode IV, there is a huge gap that can be filled with stories. This book takes place right after Vader becomes the Vader we all love with a good chance of us seeing future movies that involve Vader and the characters that could be introduced. So everyone should pay attention to these titles that are filling in the gaps of our beloved Star Wars.
Small Publisher Picks
Walking Dead #170 (Image) is a no brain pick. It will happen everytime as long as the show still has millions of viewers with the potential of new characters or plots to come forth in the show. The commons still increase in value over time, so it’s that definite pick.
My other pick is the Star Trek Waypoint #6 (IDW) Whalen Variant of Spock. Just a great cover. Spock has more fans than any other Star Trek character so this is a must pickup. Like Mel would claim, this one is t-shirt worthy I think.
Indie Pick
Galaktikon #1 (Albatross) – From Eric Powell’s publishing and co-writer with Brendon Small, comes a new series. Not sure about you but I’ve pretty much enjoyed any book being put out by Albatross. So this is a must check out and pick up. From the description:
“From Brendon Small, the man who brought you Dethklok and Metalocalypse, comes a high stakes intergalactic extreme rock comic. Based on his album, Galaktikon, we follow Triton, intergalactic hero of the universe, who will face the ultimate outer space struggle: getting over his divorce.”
The other mention goes to Dead of Winter #1 (Oni Press), a table top smash hit. It’s already selling out online. So it’s definitely worth checking out. These might catch heat at first so they might die off as time goes by, so if you miss out, you can likely wait to pick up. But don’t be caught off guard, if you can snag some extra’s, this one might be a potential winner.
That’s all I got. Love them, hate them.. hate me, whatever. Tell us what your picking up or spec’ing on.

  1. I went back to trade waiting to read TWD, but I still always pick up one or two copies of each issue.

    1. Yeah, I’ve done the trade on a few Image titles now, wanting to read in larger chunks. TWD though is still the one book I read every time it’s released.
God Country TPB came out today, I had read issues 1 and 2, held off so I could read entire thing in one sitting.
