Hey guys, Anthony filling in for Shawn B. He has been off doing his Johnny Cash gig, among other things, and I like this column too much to let it slip. So let’s take a look at Mel, Poyo’s, and my spec picks from one year ago.
Thin week this time last year, this year too. But let’s take a look at the picks.
The Winners
Motor Girl #1 – Anthony and Poyo pick
Original Value: $4 Current Value: $7
Prices are a little all over the place on this one. Copies have sold for a couple times cover price, but not many have moved recently. Asking prices on eBay up to $20, but a 9.8 can be grabbed for $50 plus shipping.. Copies still available online.
Superman #10 – Mel and Poyo Pick
Original Value: $3 Current Value: $15
First appearance of the Superson’s Mel had a shirt made up of this cover for Baltimore, good choice.
Near Misses
Animosity #3 Cover B Incentive Tony Harris Horror Variant Cover – Mel Pick
Original Value: $12 Current Value: $12
This one had it all, hot series, great cover, small print run… but the steam left the sails for this book. Further add the dilution of the brand by adding multiple series spinoffs and sadly this great cover didn’t hold up one term. Still have one in my personal collection though.
The Misses
Spider-Woman Vol 6 #13 Cover B Incentive Francesco Francavilla Variant Cover
Original Value: $15 Current Value: $9.99
Fracavilla is a favorite around these parts, however, his more horror related covers seem to do better. this one may have been a good quick flip, but long term hasn’t panned out.

Still love that Superman 10 cover …the Best of the B covers imo
That is actually cover A of Superman #10.
correct, still the best cover in a long time
holy crap…I could of swore it was a B cover…thats wicked
Yeah, this was cover B..
Agreed
I am clearly in the vast minority preferring cover B over A….oops!
I did ok on the one copy of supes i bought !
OK… Johnny Cash gig?
That Superman #10 heated up quick and it has stayed at that price since. I missed out on it and ended up paying $10 for mine.
I just found another of those Superman #10 on the shelf a couple weeks ago. I’ve got a newsstand that I’m going to get graded. I picked up everything on the list except for Motor Girl.
I flipped a few of these when they came out. I have none of cover A left, but I am not a super sons fan, so no loss there. I’m sitting on 1 copy of cover B.
