Wednesday Open Forum

Wednesday
Wednesday, the best day of the week, new comic book day. It is like your birthday in the middle of each week (well, one where you buy your own presents.)
We open things up to hear from you. A free for all.
The 164th edition of the open forum!
As always we also want to hear about your weekly pickups.
So, What were your pick ups?
What had disappeared off the shelves?
What was sitting on the shelves?
What back issue deals did you grab?
Here are my pickups for the week so far:

  1. What up everyone!!!
I was wondering if anybody else noticed Tiffany Espensen aka “Cindy” is in Avengers Infinity War…Which in my opinion secures her spot as Silk. Thoughts?

      1. shes a way better character than spider-gwen yet her ongoing gets cancelled and gwens is still going….
I know that history will come down on the side of silk and gwen will be forgotten or laughed at, but for her to disappear so quickly was a huge surprise to me. The character has so much depth and potential for some amazing storytelling.

  2. As I stated in a previous forum, I have recently bought and am reading the ASM Omnibus vol.1. I just discovered a neat podcast, which some of you may want to check out, called ‘Screw it, let’s talk about just Spider-Man’. Each episode goes over in detail each issue is the ASM run, starting with Amazingly Fantasy 15. Kinda a fun listen. Check it out if your interested.

  3. Oh it just dawned on me that I have the first appearance ever of Zombie Carl from Walking Dead on a Walking Dead comic.. now since he got bit in the show.. I hope they make him turn. But we know that won’t happen.

    1. NIce, I need an original Francavilla! I’ve been collecting his stuff for years. I even got a set of old classic horror movie posters I saw on sale because of his work!

      1. Just make it to a Mondocon one year, he pretty much comes every year. Said it’s his favorite con to attend out of all the cons he goes to.

      2. Lol to get time off at that time of year, I’d have to go unpaid. Add to that the half a continent travel distance and the associated cost and there’s no way I get thebok from my wife!
Maybe I’ll ship you a book with return postage next year!

  4. Hello again everyone.
It’s been a slow week on my end. I’ve been waiting for the Star Wars episodes 1-6 blu rays to go on sale forever now and it finally happened! I got all six on blu ray and dvd for only $60 CAD. Normally they retail for $110. I’m pretty pumped about that.
    This week I am getting:
    Action Comics #993
    Bloodshot: Salvation $4
    Cable #152
    Detective Comics #970
    Jughead: The Hunger #2
    Mister Miracle #5
    Royals #12
    Star Wars #40
    Supergirl #16 – Artgerm Variant
    The Amazing Spider-Man #792
    The Despicable Deadpool #290
    The Flash #36
    Have fun, stay hydrated!

  5. Not sure if this is the right place to bring this up, and it probably could be a write-up all on its own, but I was curious if anyone had any spec thoughts on the Fox/Disney potential deal. Obviously, we know the big characters would get a boost, but what are the other books that may see a jump?

  6. It is a Stokoe-tastic week if you are a James Stokoe fan.
    Picking up:
    Aliens Dead Orbit 4 (Stokoe)
    Invader Zim 26
    Maybe:
Samurai Jack Quantum Jack 3 (Stokoe 1:10 cover)
Under Scourge of the Sewer 1 (Stokoe cover)
Love and Rockets 4 (from last week)
I saw Brandon Graham again at a local signing with Joe Keating and Farel Dalrymple and had more of my collection signed and sketched upon. Found out he just moved to Portland!
Also bought my Image Expo 2018 ticket since Image is now in Portland too. If anyone is planning on buying a Premium ticket to get the 3 Image Expo variants, the deadline to buy a ticket is December 24.

    1. I didn’t think issue #4 of Aliens Dead Orbit would ever hit the shelves. I’ll have to go back and pull the back issues and re-read the whole series.

  7. So so week for me. ASM #792 sold out quickly at the large store in my area, but was available in other shops. My pick ups were:
    PC
    Animosity #11
    Smoke Town #5
    She-Hulk #160
    JLA #20B
New Wolvie #28, can’t wait to see more Gabby and Deadpool together in this title. It’s good stuff.
    ASM #792
    Detective Comics #970
Watchmen #8-#12, to finish my set, NM, $48
    Specs and Flips
Batman Who Laughs #1 2nd Print
    Supergirl #16
    Nightwing #29B
Doomsday Clock #1, midnight variant and lenticular
    Venom Inc. #1 Granov Variant
    Tremendous Trump #1
    ASM #792

    1. Those, “Trump,” political comics make decent flips, I’ve gotten some and been surprised at how both his biggest, “Fans,” and biggest haters both want them a they either interpret the books as loving homages or a hilarious mockery. I guess the key is to write the comics so they can be taken as either way?

      1. Ya, I’ve sold a bunch of these. One of my LCS’ has a bunch sitting in the back bins. I buy them as I sell them. 45 is an embarrassment.

The LCS either didn’t have or ran out of Batman Who Laughs #1 2nd Print, but I’ll order a copy or two online. Picked up Judas #1 since it wasn’t on my pull list, but passed on Giants #1. Also received my order from Scout Comics from their Cyber Monday sale, so I’m glad to have added those books to the collection.

  10. Seeing it posted elsewhere that Kill or be Killed is being adapted into a movie. It’s a good series, hope they don’t screw it up as a movie.
