Venom #1 is out tomorrow. It is the newest book by superstar writer Donny Cates. Donny set Thanos on his ear, introduced Cosmic Ghost Rider, all after he had two hit indy series at Image. Venom is set to be his next big book. The following post contains spoilers. The spoilers are redacted, click the spoiler warning to see the spoiled images. The accompanying text is not spoiler protected. Proceed at your own risk.
So as I mentioned, Venom #1 is going to be big, here is why:
First appearance of new Venom design
First appearance of mystery man who is like a symbiote Obi-Wan
First appearance of new group of symbiote Super Soldiers
First cameo of big-bad ancient symbiote
And of course, first Donny Cates on Venom
In the three page preview we ran, we mentioned a very ancient symbiote had been living on earth, Venom was not the first. Both Eddie Brock and Venom were having nightmares as a result. We get to see a new look for Venom as a result of the nightmare.
Eddie Brock is taken hostage by an old man, who knows a lot about symbioses, a whole lot. He is able to keep Eddie and Venom in check.
Eddie is originally mistaken for Flash Thompson. Eddie goes into detail about the program that matched Flash with Venom.
Eddie quickly learns what he surmised was wrong.
We get to meet the other Super-soldiers who went through the same treatment Flash Thompson did, but many, many, years earlier.
Finally, we get to see what Venom is so afraid of… (Cameo)

It will run until issue 22 and then the All-New Venom will debut and we’ll get another #1, because.. WE… DEMANDED IT! 😛

Finally a number one issue with some meat on the bone. Every title needs Cates to pen a story arc.

So Venom is fighting Barbatos? And those Venomized soldiers look like the Venom version the Dark Knights. I guess this is Marvel’s answer to Metal?

Anyone’s welcome noticing the bulk of cover As have damage, either spine ticks or weird brown vertical lines down the spines….staple rubs. Found only one copy I’d even call 9.6 grade.
Copy I picked up didnt have such issues. Spine is pretty straight, no ticks, creases or lines for my copy.
