Wednesday Open Forum

Wednesday

Wednesday, the best day of the week, new comic book day. It is like your birthday in the middle of each week (well, one where you buy your own presents.)

We open things up to hear from you. A free for all.

The 240th edition of the open forum!

Did you know we have the forum up and running, you can check it out at the official CHU Forum site.

As always we also want to hear about your weekly pickups.
So, What were your pick ups?
What had disappeared off the shelves?
What was sitting on the shelves?
What back issue deals did you grab?

  1. Some good things to get to read this week, in my opinion. Not much for flipping tho. I had a wildly busy week flipping LAST week though. Bought about some books for a couple hundred that a lady in our area wanted gone and it had some great keys I needed for my own collection and to flip (Secret Wars 8, Amazing Spider-Man 252, She-Hulk 1, Nova 1, to list the biggest stuff). I also was able to acquire the AOC Wonder Woman variant for admittedly a big chunk of change, but I flipped it for a reasonable profit. After some weeks doing little in regards to wheeling and dealing it was good to be busy!

    1. Had some good finds in the $1 bin this week.
      Machine Man #2 x3
      Huntress #1 x2
      Marvel Age #6
      Wonder Woman #18
      DarkHawk #50
      DarkHawk Annual #3 (amazing cover)
Power Pack #19 (cool Beta Ray Bill issue)
Incredible Hulk 441 (love this cover & Angel Medina’s art)

Added some other more expensive keys I’ve been wanting, that weren’t in the dollar bin, but great buys lol:
      Savage She Hulk #1
Fantastic Four #134 (finally, I have big hopes on this book & I’ve wanted it for awhile.
      Incredible Hulk #449

      Fun week for me!

  2. Definitely picking up immortal hulk.I’m not sure what other new stuff I’ll be getting this week. Received my grades back from the latest batch of cgc submissions…mostly bronze age Eternals. Most rated higher than I thought with the best being a 9.8 eternals 2 and 3. Two copies of the eternals #1 and one each of Eternals #2 and 3 as well as Shazam #28 graded a 9. 6. Can’t believe how cheap those books were not that long ago. I don’t think I paid much more than $20 each for any of the books I submitted.

  3. Pickups this week…
Xmen vol2 #54 prismatic collector classics with coa 2nd Onslaught
    X23 Target x #1 incentive variant
    Major X #1 1:25
Marvel What If? #114 1st Crusader
    Super Pro #1 1st Superpro
    Xmen #360 foil

  4. Just curious about the superpro comic Alana, is something up with that comic that i’m not aware of?

    1. I’m pulling them out of dollar bins because every other book from that time period that I thought wouldn’t be worth anything is worth money these days. It’s just a matter of time before Super Pro gets rebooted since Disney owns Marvel ABC ESPN and rumors of ABC picking up Fox or CBS’s NFL contract starting 2022.

      1. If it was every a live action movie the Rock or Jason Momoa would be born to play Super Pro.

  5. Picking up:
    Rick & Morty 50

    Pre-ordered:
Vampirella 2 Artgerm Virgin Variant Cover

My kid is graduating high school this week. I’m preparing for the next Frankenstein Comic Swap, 6/8, in Portland, OR.

  6. how here misses hidden gems?i miss that blind kid and his gems what up with that??love ya guys blind adam out

        1. Yeah, I think some forget CHU doesn’t pay all the bills. We’s got kids, full time jobs and what not as well alongside all our CHU activities. 🙂

          1. Appreciate every bit of effort the team puts in. It’s pretty awesome that it runs as consistently as it does. Keeps me coming back for more.

            1. Honestly, I don’t know how we do it either.

I work on average 40-50 hours a week for my day job (luckily it’s in front of computers). If my wife is working, I’m on kid duty which includes dropping/picking up kids from school and uber’ing them around town for any extra curricular activities.

I also do side contract work, doesn’t take a lot of time but sometimes it can be another 5-10 hours a week.

I probably spend at least another 10-20 hours a week on CHU, not just writing but backend stuff, maintenance, etc.

All my other time is spent sleeping. Now I know why I’m so far behind in reading my stack of comics I need to read.. 😉

            2. But thanks for the appreciation D-Rog. I can’t speak for Anthony but I really do enjoy CHU as well and want to make it the best comic book site out there.
