Since Covrprice.com came on the scene, they have become a go to spot for watching eBay trends on comics. They scour thousands of eBay sales to cultivate data to spotlight the hottest selling comics. Here is this week’s Top Ten Comics: (Please note, potential spoilers do follow)
#1 Oblivion Song #1 – Pink Signature Variant (Image, 2018) has been optioned at Universal with Kirkman’s company Skybound producing. We think the likelihood is high of this happening. Apparently, the market does as well since it sold 87 copies, had a 7-day trend of 600% and had a high sale of $200 for a CGC 9.8.
#2 Oblivion Song #1 (Image, 2018) standard cover sold more copies than the pink signature with 132 sales, had a 7-day trend of 271% and had a high sale of $120 for a CGC 9.8. Is a tiny, pink signature worth $80 more? I guess asking that is a huge can of worms when it comes to comics.
#3 Batman: Mask of the Phantasm The Animated Movie Deluxe Edition (DC, 1993) The Phantasm is coming in DC cannon by Mr. Tom King. With his tweeted teases, The Phantasm’s first comic appearance sold 105 copies, had a 7-day trend of 233% and had a high sale of $90 for a CGC 9.4.
#4 Hungry Ghosts #1 (Dark Horse, 2018) has been optioned by Sony Pictures Animation. With this news, it sold 21 copies, had a 7-day trend of 574% and had a high raw sale of $25. Animated films take years to make, so the market responded conservatively.
#5 The Walking Dead # 192 (Image, 2019) Walking Dead fans are still processing Rick’s death. (We know we are) With many not believing it would actually happen, fans scrambled to find copies after it did and sold 115 copies, had a 7-day trend of 91% and had a high raw sale of $19.
#6 The Omega Men #3 (DC, 1983) Lobo is getting his own TV series. Our “Main Man” REALLY needs the R rated theatrical treatment… but we’ll take what we can get. It sold 79 copies, had a 7-day trend of 119% and had a high sale of $270 for a CGC 9.8.
#7 Die #1 Hans Variant (Image, 2018) was hinted at being optioned. With this rumor, sales have received a breath of new life and sold 53 copies, had a 7-day trend of 115% and had a high sale of $200 for a CGC 9.8.
#8 The Walking Dead #191 (Image, 2019) Rick gets shot, many thought he would get better… or at least hold on to issue 200. Nope. It sold 58 copies, had a 7-day trend of 125% and had a high sale of $200 for a CGC 9.8.
#9 The Eternals #1 (25 Cent Cover) (Marvel, 1976) gets credit for being the only confirmed next phase MCU film. It sold 67 copies, had a 7-day trend of 98% and had a high sale of $1,240 for a CGC 9.8.
#10 The Batman and Robin Adventures Annual #1(DC, 1996) is the second appearance of The Phantasm. This story picks up after the Animated film. Such a cool character selling 21 copies, had a 7-day trend of 237% and had a high raw sale of $100.
Runners-Up to follow
A little after news hit that Phantasm was coming I picked up a few copies of the deluxe edition from Mycomicshop for under cover and a copy of Batman and Robin Adventures Annual #1 from a seller on Amazon for $29. The one from Amazon is actually a 9.8 contender(with a press anyway)! Surprised by that to be honest! More often than not, from my experience anyway, Amazon sellers don’t deliver the highest quality books even when listed as new. I usually hit up Amazon only when everyone else is sold out of a new hot book. Even if they list it as new I never set my sights too high on what I will get. This time was a pleasant surprise! I have only come across one or two Amazon sellers that know what they are doing when it comes to comics… Outside of that it is always good to see Eternals #1 or any Eternals book in the top ten!
I have had very good luck with Amazon.
One bad experience I have from amazon is I bought the Gold Foil Venom #1 for $50 they sent the trade paperback with no foil . By the time that was all resolved copies were in the $200 range and never got one.
That sucks about the Venom. Amazon isn’t awful it just seems there are a lot of dealers who really don’t know much about comics selling them…Kind of like they run a thrift shop and just throw everything they have up on amazon. The dealers that I have come across that know what they are doing are great though.
I tried ordering from Amazon.
Kid wanted an Avatar book and I could get a “New” copy in days instead of waiting a couple weeks for Diamond to ship.
It arrives beat up and VG at best, obviously preowned.
Contacted the seller, I get an I’m sorry, there was a new employee excuse, would I settle for a $2 discount? Kid was impatient and accepted.
Next day he’s back and wants the next issue in the series. I go back to Amazon and two stores have a “New” copy for the same price. One was the guy we just had the problem with. I selected the other seller.
Book arrives with the same type of damage and condition. I message the seller and get an identical message to what I’d gotten from the first seller and when I checked, the return addresses on both envelopes were the same.
One guy operating on Amazon under multiple names!!!!!!!
That was the last book purchase I will ever make with them. That was 4 years ago now.
I’m surprised no one is talking about Berger Books preview 2018. It is actually the first appearance of Hungry Ghosts.
Preveiw books are a very niche market. Not many readers or collectors care for preview issues.
Count me as one of those. If people considered preview books first appearances and such, then the monthly Diamond Previews should be collectible then right, with some firsts out of those.. 😉
does anyone see phantasim becomingthe next Harley quinn or live wire?always loved the chacater and the movie.omega men #3 is justthe new golden gouse love you guys blind adam out
People do seem excited by her. If Tom King does a good job with the storyline it could really propel her from a D-lister to an B or even an A-lister!
Dang…I gave my 2nd copy of Oblivion Song to a buddy a few months back…hope it was not the pink signature.
Dreamwalker 0, first Goon and DC comics presents 26, first new teen titans. To name a couple, but generally preview books don’t count for first appearances.
