It’s that time again, where I tell you what’s really grinding my gears for the week of September 25th, 2019.
Some weeks it’s mostly likes, other weeks it’s dislikes.
So what’s grinding my gears this week?
New Batman Creative Team Announced
News hit that James Tynion IV will be teaming up with Tony S. Daniel on Batman, starting with issue #86 in early 2020 after King departs from writing duties.
I like Tony Daniel’s cover art and interior work. What I don’t like is Tynion’s writing. I’m not sure why DC gives him so many duties on their higher profile money making characters. His work is sub par if you ask me.
Maybe he has some fans but I’m not a fan and as I wasn’t really into King’s run on Batman, looks like that’s just going to continue with Tynion taking over the writing duty.
Ghost Rider NYCC Exclusive Glow in the Dark Variant
Uh… yes please!
Anyone remember the Wolverine Glow-in-the Dark Variant from last year? As a Ghost Rider fan, this is one to get.
Ghost Rider #1 hits shelves on October 2nd right before the convention, so perfect timing eh?
That’s all I got this week. It’s a smaller likes and dislikes
I enjoyed JTIV’s run in Detective Comics and his co-writing in JL with Snyder has been solid too.
Agree fully on Tynion. I did like his detective comics run and his independent stuff is worth a look but i believe he is still kind of a sub par writer as well. I don’t expect sails to improve and Batman will now have a thousand words per page. Oh well, less money for me to spend
That GR is a swipe of the 1990 series issue 15, which was also a GitD cover….maybe The first comic to feature such a gimmick?
Although that’s one of my favorites of all time…so it’s cool!
Is each issue actually have a unique number that’s printed on the lower right of the cover?
Yeah, I believe these will be numbered.
And on top of that, last year, The Return of Wolverine glow in the dark’s I was able to snag # 38 – 40. People sure do love the lower numbers for some reason so that helped me sell them quickly. Although I think I still have #40 I kept for myself.
his jla work has been great.i will give post king batman a try.now I want to buy copies of ghost rider #15 haven’t had that book in years.blind adam out
I think that Tynion earned this spot. I am going to pass. I feel let down by Tom King”s book not to mention that 2 x a month shipping was insane. His story was all over the place and nowhere at the same damn time. I was hoping for someone outside the box and that is not Tynion. The problem with Batman over recent years has been the last writer tries to outdo the previous one and it is always tied to ‘breaking’ of ‘pushing’ Batman to his limits. How many times have we seen physical and psychological war waged against Batman? Bane, Simon Hurt, Talia, Joker, Batman Who laughs, Barbatos, and on and on. Kings run started off great and then after the wedding it all collapsed. Batman comes with pressure because he is without question, the star at DC. I would love to see them expand on the Metal story and bring back some of those characters. If the Black Batman rumors are true, I believe the new Rorshach will take over not Luke Foxx. I would read that book.
