So if Batman #92 has her speaking for the first time, be in a battle and of course thanks to artgerm also be on the cover, is that her true full first?
I mean ASM 361 is considered 1st full Carnage just because Cary is on the cover. Same with Hulk 181.
Shouldnt this apply to Bat’s #92 then?
I’m just bugging you guys. Don’t really want to start another 1st App arguthread.
I don’t own any of the Punchline comics and quite frankly don’t care!
😉
Honestly the whole cover thing is idiotic. I mean a characters first app is INSIDE a book. The first book they’re inside. If it’s just a quick one panel, background, head shot it’s a cameo. If it’s full body, name mentioned and/or a speaking part it’s first full. If the cover isn’t on either of those issues it’s POINTLESS. And don’t even get me started on advertisement apps. This whole first app of new characters has gotten stupid.
PS – Don’t mean to add to the argument, but…
Not at all. The argument has been going on for so long now. Not everyone will ever completely agree. But for some characters, Gwenom for example. She was on a cover as a theme month character. Marvel saw the over whelming response from fans towards her and made her into a character. But she first appeared on a cover only.
Hmmm? Could she be a mute? That could be such a wonderful contrast to Harley’s constant & annoying prattle.
She speaks in Batman 89
Yup, speaks in BM89. No speaking in Hell Arisen. Assuming she’s gonna do both in Batman #92 as Tynion claims..
She isn’t going anywhere. She’s going to continue to be hot. You may not care now that you don’t own any copies of this book, but you will. They are saying that the print run on Year of the Villain: Hell Arisen is 1/4 that of Batman #89. Usually Batman’s print run is around 100,000. So there may be 25,000 copies divided between 2 covers. So there may only be 12500ish copies of the A cover. I hope it absolutely takes off, as well as it should for a Joker sidekick. The last sidekick is annoying AF and she’s the hottest character in comics.
“She’s going to continue to be hot. You may not care now that you don’t own any copies of this book, but you will. ”
That’s not necessarily a true statement for all. If I don’t get one, it’s not the end of the world and this doesn’t seem to be a character I’m going to fall in love with either. Just like Harley, I have zero desire to seek out her first. If I got it at cover price, I probably would have already sold it for a lot profit. 😉
“Usually Batman’s print run is around 100,000”
Not for a while buddy.. Batman #86 saw only 61k print run. Batman #85 saw 60k print run. #84 had 58k print run.
King’s run saw slumping sales. Most did not expect Tynion to revive Batman since he’s not the greatest writer. So they’re creating buzz with new characters. It’s working but for how long? Sure people might like the new gal so far but it’s not going to save the slump in sales unless Tynion magically becomes a better writer.
It really depends. If they continue to use her after this story-line and flood the market with her then yeah, she may stay hot. If they don’t use her for a while, or all that much, well, as with so many other characters she will cool. If you have extra copies sell them because odds are the prices won’t stay at $50 plus for the comic for long.I’m not saying it will be cover cover price in four months, it won’t but it very well may be a $15 to $20 book. Now let’s say DC announces she will appear in their movie universe then the book would keep its high value and probably increase a bit, but that doesn’t seem likely any time soon.
I think writing plays a big part of it though as well. If they keep using her but the writing sucks and or Tynion screws the character with poor writing, it can totally start to fall flat over time.
I’m starting to think DC should keep announcements or characters off the big screen. With their current luck of making horrible movies, they do more harm than good for the characters. 😉
Even Harley can’t muster much on the big screen, doubt Punchline will be coming to the DCU anytime soon.
DC has Batman and Jocker as money makers in the movies.
The DCU is one big joke and everyone but Batman and Joker is the punchline… See what I did there? ;o)
Harley is badass and she makes me laugh. I like Harley, considerably.
