We shouldn’t just collect or flip books, we should also read them. A good story can make your purchase well worth the money spent if you ask me. After all, we buy books to read for entertainment right? Even if you can’t flip them, reading is just as rewarding.
We tend to focus on mostly the floppy copies each week and kind of ignore the trades and hardcovers that come out week after week.
The King of Hell is back for sure. I love Ghost Rider. Picking up the trade is great for those that missed out on the floppy copies (or those who don’t want to take them out of their bag and board). Trades can save you money as well, shave a few bucks off if buying the singles at cover price.
All hell breaks loose as the Brothers Ghost Rider return! Johnny Blaze is the king of Hell, its first line of defense against demonic hordes trying to escape and lords of other infernal regions making a play for his throne – including a certain evil queen from his past!
Meanwhile, Danny Ketch never wanted to be a Ghost Rider. But with his brother in charge downstairs, Ketch must become Earth’s Spirit of Vengeance full-time – no matter how much he’d rather be doing anything else. And with the psychopathic symbiote Carnage targeting a third Ghost Rider, Alejandra Jones, he could be her only hope! But when the inevitable happens and Rider battles Rider, who will Mephisto have his money on?
Collecting GHOST RIDER (2019) #1-4, ABSOLUTE CARNAGE: SYMBIOTE OF VENGEANCE and material from MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS (2019) #6 and INCOMING #1. Rated T+
Lots of Robotech fans out there for this next one.
Robotech is reborn from the ashes of Event Horizon!
New writer Brenden Fletcher (Motorcrush, Isola) and artist Elmer Damaso (Robotech/Voltron) boot up Robotech: Remix, an all-new series that will take beloved characters and iconic mecha to places fans have never seen before!
And for you Joss Whedon fans, a new printing of Astonishing X-Men Omnibus for those that love omnibuses. Don’t like reading digital books and don’t want to touch the precious back issues, then this is the way to go.
Winner of multiple Eisner Awards, Joss Whedon and John Cassaday’s ASTONISHING X-MEN was a smash hit with critics and fans alike from the very first issue – winning praise from dozens of top media outlets and racking up nearly every major comic book industry award.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Whedon and Cassaday (CAPTAIN AMERICA, Planetary) assembled a tight cast – Cyclops, Beast, Wolverine and Emma Frost, joined by returning fan-favorite Kitty Pryde – and set forth a groundbreaking pace, from the chilling opening pages and the reinvention of the team to a startling new threat and the unexpected return of a beloved X-Man!
Building on their momentum, the superstar creators ratcheted up the danger and drama in the series’ shocking second half, creating a must-read book that can truly be called ‘astonishing’!
Collecting ASTONISHING X-MEN (2004) #1-24 and GIANT-SIZE ASTONISHING X-MEN #1. Rated T+
I got another Omnibus this week. This next one is for the rising star She-Hulk who’s still slated to get her own Disney+ show. So, another great way to get caught up on all your She-Hulk reading to be the know-it-all when the show airs.
After making her a front-and-center star in his acclaimed FANTASTIC FOUR run, writer/artist John Byrne took She-Hulk solo in a classic graphic novel and an outrageous ongoing series!
Now Byrne’s complete adventures of “Shulkie” are collected in one sensational omnibus, as Jennifer Walters smashes the glass ceiling – and the fourth wall – in hilarious fashion! See She-Hulk: Targeted by S.H.I.E.L.D.! Battling Spider-Man! Beheaded! Facing Dr. Bong’s wrath!
Alongside Santa Claus! On her own Star Truck! Hosting her own Golden Age guest star! Taking on Spragg the Living Hill! And heading on a puntastic Jenny to the Center of the Earth! But will She-Hulk say “I do”3 to the Mole Man? And is her greatest nemesis Xemnu the Titan…or John Byrne himself?!
Collecting MARVEL GRAPHIC NOVEL #18 and SENSATIONAL SHE-HULK #1-8, #31-46 and #48-50 and material from MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS (1988) #18. Rated T+
And the last pick this week goes to another Devil, from hell, Mephisto. Not familiar with this character that comes and goes into our Marvel lives, this is a great place to start. Collects a bunch of classics up through some of the newer stuff. You know, if this character was done right, I could totally see him having his own new age and modern horror series. We should bring back more horror comics in our mainstream Marvel Universe.
The most diabolical entity in the Marvel Universe put its greatest heroes through hell! Join Mephisto – lord of the underworld – as he claims the Silver Surfer’s soul, trades tricks with Loki and Thor, wagers with the Beyonder over Spider-Man and bedevils Daredevil! But what is Mephisto’s plan when he targets the Fantastic Four, X-Factor, the X-Men and the Avengers? Plus: A cosmic clash with Thanos! A tale of torment uniting Doctors Strange and Doom! An unforgettable encounter with Black Panther! And…a date?!
