Spoilers: Dark Nights Death Metal #2 – Robin King Born

He takes on a new and familiar shape. He is consulted by one of his Robins. There were 5 total Robins, 4 of which could only say Crow, and were previously shown to be called off by the word Bar. (Crow+Bar=Jason Todd, former Robin who was killed by the Joker with a crowbar, the fifth is a dark version of Damien Wayne.) In this case, 004 seems to be of importance.

  1. Wow a lot of firsts Robin King, Dr Manhattan Who Laughs, Darkest Knight, and a SuperBatman good stuff.

    1. Is it the first appearance of Robin King tho? He is asking him if he wants to be the Robin King, but he isn’t the Robin King yet. He is still Robin 004 in this issue.

      1. That’s the big question. And then we have to ask is the first time he appears in Dark Nights Metal his first appearance since we have seen 004 before but just not with the crown.

        1. Yes. This is not this robin’s first appearance.

It is not even the Robin King’s first appearance technically as he has no crown yet from the spoilers.

          Sorry speculators.

  2. You guys can debate this all you want, but Snyder pulled a fast one and lied again. The Robin King character shown on the Death Metal 3 cover does not appear in Death Metal 2. So no 1st appearance.

    1. He says do you want to be my Robin King and he agrees and he wants a crown. I don’t think we need to see a major coronation to say this is Robin King he’s called Robin King in the book it’s also called first Robin King by the author Snyder and publisher DC. We don’t see King Thor in a crown or helmet when he first appears and we still know him as king Thor. But who cares about Robin King when there’s a ton of exciting new stuff besides him in this book. I think this book is a must own key for anyone that has a Metal #2, Teen Titan #12, Dark Days Casting, Metal #2, #3 Mattina variants, fits right in to that block of books. I wouldn’t spend a lot for a 1:100 BW variant or a store variant, but a regular cover or a 1:25 at or below ratio is a must if you collect bats.

      1. Wait so you were serious about those other elements? I pre-ordered 9 copies of this book and I’m already thinking they’re going in a box to be listed on Letgo. You really think it’s a hold? Darkest night is likely a temporary form. The BWL was killing it for DC, there’s no way they abandon that.

      2. I think probably a better question is what is the f%46ing point of a “Robin King?” By the end of this issue, there’s nothing more than this tiny conversation about it. Even if he gets a crown, so what? Why do we care? You can’t just put slight variations of characters into books with small references and expect them to matter. If anybody was hoping to read this book today and have it make more sense than these spoilers…NOPE! That’s about it. Nothing further that would make any of it any clearer or make you care more about it.

        1. Robin King only matters if he becomes a major villain all on his own… like Batman Who Laughs.. until then, he’s just another Robin (and likely a future dead one since DC loves to kill Robin’s). That’s my two cents.. I’m skipping Robin King spec.. I just have zero interest in an evil Robin..

          1. In my opinion, Robin King is just another half-baked idea that Snyder and Capullo threw into this pawn shop of a series. Robin King could turn into the new god of another ‘nother multiverse just as easily as he could be smushed by yet another sentient batmobile or just forgotten and not even dealt with in this series ever again. Each of those are as likely as each other because that’s about how well planned this series is.

              1. The original Metal #2 sat around at cover as a dead spec for over a year with the popularity of TT #12 but now it’s worth money.

  3. So now that Robin King Spec is smushed…who do you think Robin 004 is? Jason Todd? Likely to be revealed in Legends of the Dark Knights?

    1. It is most certainly a version of Jason Todd. Think about what happened before. The four goblins would go around saying crow. The Batman who Laughs quieted then by saying bar. Crowbar, it’s what Joker used to kill Jason Todd

      1. That’s what I’m thinking. That “crow bar”
gag has been running for a while…Metal 2?

    2. Because you know it’s someone good…or “bad”….an alternate of someone we know from the regular Universe…

  4. I’m with Alana here. A few interesting characters they could do something with.

While it’s not the full Robin King coronation that some were hoping for, he is offered the title and accepted. So is he technically Robin King here? Does the crown alone make him Robin King? Will be interesting how the market plays out.

It all really depends how the future plays out too. Not all Dark multiverse characters become BWL. Snyder did spend a good bit hyping this particular one so will see what’s coming.

When was first Robin 004? Metal 2?

    1. Y’all fools are sleeping on first Batom. (Talk about SMUSH). Enjoyable read..liked Dr. Manbattan; the new Amazo not so much. Canonically Robin 04 would’ve been Stephanie Brown…?

      1. Most certainly Robin 4 would be Stephanie if this was normal characters. Seems like they all are Jason Todd’s from other universes I think. Just a hunch.

        1. I think you are onto something with Jason Todd.

I meant Robin Goblin 004, not the 4th Robin. Did the Goblins debut in Metal 2 or TT12?
