Covrprice.com Top Ten for Week Ending 8/7/20

Since Covrprice.com  came on the scene, they have become a go to spot for watching eBaytrends on comics. They scour thousands of eBay sales to cultivate data to spotlight the hottest selling comics. Here is this week’s Top Ten Comics: (Please note, potential spoilers do follow, and, these results are for auction that closed last week. )

#1 CAPTAIN MARVEL #18 COVER A (MARVEL, 2020) This A cover was the big winner of the week and sold a hefty 87 copies, had a 7-day trend of 153% and had a high sale of $19.99 for a raw copy. The question is, can this book grow? Should we care about Lauri-Ell? Odds are not in her favor, so we’ll have to see.

#2 CAPTAIN MARVEL #18 DAN MORA COVER B (MARVEL, 2020) This issue introduces a new character, Lauri-Ell, who is Carol Danver’s half-sister Kree warrior. Like with LIAR LIAR (below), will this character be relevant in a few months? It really all depends. But for right now, this cover sold 35 copies, had a 7-day trend of 333% and had a high sale of $24.99 for a raw copy.

#3 WONDER WOMAN #759 COVER A (DC, 2020) Yep! Cover A beat out the Jim Lee cover by selling just a few more copies at a total of 45 sold, had a 7-day trend of 182% and had a high sale of $24.99 for a raw copy. As mentioned, this is on to a 2nd print, which will be a color variation of this cover.

#4 WONDER WOMAN #759 JIM LEE COVER B (DC, 2020) There’s speculation that a new character in this issue, “Emma”, will become a potential new villain named LIAR LIAR. This speculation has moved this Jim Lee cover (and cover A) to fly off shelves and go to a 2nd print. The 2nd print will feature a color variant to COVER A, making this Jim Lee variant the long-term winner if LIAR LIAR turns out to be anything other than an inspiration to watch a Jim Carey movie. This issue sold 41 copies, had a 7-day trend of 152% and had a high sale of $24.99 for a raw copy.

#5 STRANGE ACADEMY #1 (MARVEL, 2020) This book is such a surprise. There’s no confirmed content news and the characters still have a few years to marinate and become favorites. However, with that said… this series is scorching hot with all covers on this 1st issue jumping in price. This standard cover sold 46 copies, had a 7-day trend of 129% and had a high sale of $246 for a CGC 9.8. (Find on eBay) (Find on MCS)

#6 THOR #5 (MARVEL, 2020) The first appearance of THE BLACK WINTER sold 41 copies, had a 7-day trend of 144% and had a high sale of $349.99 for a CGC 9.8.

#7 VENOM #25 2ND PRINT (MARVEL, 2020) This variant has it all, Virus, Knull, and the first cover appearance for Codex. This seemed like a no brainer before it was released and even more so now. It sold 49 copies, had a 7-day trend of 107% and had a high sale of $149.99 for a CGC 9.8.

#8 OBLIVION SONG #1 (IMAGE, 2018) IGN recently reported that OBLIVION SONG is still in active development: “The movie is still very much in development,” he said. “We’re working with our partners at Universal to bring this film to life. It is a slow-going process. We probably announced the development of it a little too soon, but it’s something that’s actively going on behind the scenes on a daily basis. I’m reviewing things and getting things in order, and progress is being made. Hopefully, there’ll be news very soon.” It sold 35 copies, had a 7-day trend of 126% and had a high sale of $99.99 for a CGC 9.8.

#9 VENOM #26 (MARVEL, 2020) This first full appearance of VIRUS is another book to watch closely. Mr. Donny Cates has really turned Venom and his new surrounding cast of characters into aftermarket royalty. It sold 37 copies, had a 7-day trend of 110% and had a high sale of $89.99 for a CGC 9.8.

#10 ULTIMATE FALLOUT #4 (MARVEL, 2011) Miles is refusing to leave this list. And why should he? He’s STILL outselling most new books with 40 copies sold, continues to have a 7-day trend of 101% and had a high sale of $1,200 for a CGC 9.8. Get comfy, this book is doing JUST fine right now.

  1. Interesting. I was wondering where folks were getting the 1st appearance of Liar Liar in WW759. Emma is a young girl Diana interacts with briefly for 2 pages. Then there’s Sarah, who is a possessed woman wreaking havoc on a freeway. The only other character interaction is with Max Lord.

    1. DC confirmed Emma is Liar Liar. She is also featured on upcoming covers, most notably the 1:25 character variant (along with her bunny) with the title Liar Liar on it. Her powers are likely the source of Sarah (the drivers) sudden erratic behavior.
