Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 8/12/20

Every week, hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. Some live up to that potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for delivery 8/12/20:

Middle of August already and summer is just flying by. Saving cash because of not having cons. Here is what is on tap this week:

Ones to Watch

Batmans Grave #9 Stephen Platt Cover – Stephen Platt, aka Splatt, returns with a great cover for Batman’s Grave. Just a cool looking cover.

Captain Marvel #19 – Following up the success of issue #18, first appearance of Carol’s sister. These have had numerous sales at cover price already, but could creep up.

Immortal Hulk #36 – Heard a rumor on something. Will have spoilers tonight to confirm. I can say the preview doesn’t give much away on it.

Grievling #2 – great indy series with a high price tag. Stores will not go heavy on it. It is Steve Niles who has had a ton of optioned work. So, this could really pay off long term potentially.

Something Is Killing The Children #9 – Issues of the series are heating up. Feel bad for the guy who said he was canceling all his pre-orders on issue #1 when we let loose the FOC cover, said all spec on the book was gone. Anyway, I digress, great series with potential for screen time. The Variant is crushing it. Get it cheap if you can. Check Mycomicshop early to see if they have them at a reasonable price.

For the Cover Alone

Ghost-Spider #9 – for the Gwenom Cover alone this should be a pick up.

Everglade Angels #2 – series had a great start and I cannot wait to see where this is going.

New #1’s
Big Girls #1 – When men become giant monsters hellbent on destroying the world, only girls can stop them-BIG GIRLS. Meet Ember-she writes poetry, loves to read, and she’s a 300-foot-tall full-time monster killer! She and the other big girls are all that stand in the way of our world’s complete annihilation! Critically acclaimed artist JASON HOWARD (TREES) takes full creative control as the writer and artist of a tale that’s a cross between JOHN WICK and GODZILLA by way of HBO’s GIRLS.

Shanna The Firehair One Shot – Classic Jungle girl action. I love old Jungle Girl comics as much as horror comics.

Junior High Horrors April Fools Special #1 – It is April Fools, in August, well, comics were shut down for a while, and all of 2020 has felt like April Fool’s day. This fun book reimagines many slasher villains in a fun way, all the same. Sold out at Midtown already.

Reprint of the Week
GI Joe A Real American Hero Snake Eyes Origin – Reprints the Classic GI Joe RAH issues #26 and #27. 1980’s kids sound off… Yo Joe!

Small Press Pick of the Week
Seven Secrets #1 – New Boom series worth checking out. Already sold out and going to second print. Ton of exclusives out there though. For centuries, the Order has trusted in Keepers and Holders to guard the Secrets in seven briefcases against all harm, but when their stronghold is attacked and the secrets put in peril, the entire Order must face their greatest fear-an enemy who knows too much and is willing to kill to get what he wants. For fans of Once & Future and Undiscovered Country comes an all-new original series from #1 New York Times best-selling author Tom Taylor. Check Mycomicshop.com

DC Pick of the Week
Dark Nights Death Metal #3 Riccardo Federici Card Stock Cover awesome Robin King cover. doing well on the secondary market. Midtown jacked up the prices to $10 before release and still sold out. Check Mycomicshop.com to see what they have them at.

The Pick of the Week
Venom #27 – Grab several because the first appearance of “Codex” takes place. Not sure if it is just the one page. But we also get a look inside Virus’ helmet. Full spoilers coming later. Sold out at most shops online so check Mycomicshop.com to see if they got them in.

  1. Where has Platt been ? I haven’t seen anything from him in a long time. Venom #27b is a great cover.
