Covrprice.com Top Ten for Week Ending 8/28/20

Since Covrprice.com  came on the scene, they have become a go to spot for watching eBaytrends on comics. They scour thousands of eBay sales to cultivate data to spotlight the hottest selling comics. Here is this week’s Top Ten Comics: (Please note, potential spoilers do follow, and, these results are for auction that closed last week. )

#1 SPIDER-WOMAN #1 (MARVEL, 1978) As noted below, Jessica Drew is the speculated “Spider-Woman” in Olivia Wilde’s female-driven directorial film. With MARVEL SPOTLIGHT #32 so expensive to begin with, fans turned to this more affordable (yet still key) issue. It sold 65 copies, had a 7-day trend of 109% and had a high sale of $275 for a CGC 9.8.

#2 DARK NIGHT DEATH METAL LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHTS #1 (DC, 2020) It sold 68 copies, had a 7-day trend of 96% and had a high sale of $26 for a raw copy.

#3 CAPTAIN MARVEL THE END #1 PEACH MOMOKO B VARIANT (MARVEL, 2020) Peach Momoko is probably a name you see daily at this point. Her covers are everywhere lately. She has absolutely been the star of COVID 2020 market fervor. This cover was actually a slow build. Releasing at the height of her stardom, this issue was mostly affordable. However, as the week roll-on, this book increases in price. It sold 28 copies, had a 7-day trend of 219% and had a high sale of $36 for a raw copy.

#4 MARVEL SPOTLIGHT #32 (MARVEL, 1977) Per Deadline, “Olivia Wilde Tapped To Direct Untitled Female-Centered Marvel Movie At Sony. Sources tell Deadline that Olivia Wilde has closed a deal to direct and develop a secret Marvel film project revolving around a female character in the universe. While not confirmed, it is expected that the story will be centered on Spider-Woman.” Now, even though it’s not confirmed, the writer of the article suggested that it might be SPIDER-WOMAN (but didn’t name Jessica Drew). It’s still unknown WHICH Spider-Woman this will feature, but sales have really picked up for Jessica Drew’s first appearance in MARVEL SPOTLIGHT #32. It sold 35 copies, had a 7-day trend of 161% and had a high sale of $550 for a CGC 9.6.

#5 THOR #5 (MARVEL, 2020) BLACK WINTER is, of course, still pretty darn hot. In fact, he seems to be JUST getting started. His first appearance continues to sell week with 47 copies sold, a 7-day trend of 106% and a high sale of $275 for a CGC 9.8.

#6 MAESTRO #1 GEORGE PEREZ (1:25) (MARVEL, 2020) This George Perez 1:25 was the cover online buyers wanted for his first solo series. It sold 57 copies, had a 7-day trend of 71% and had a high sale of $40 for a raw copy.

#7 SPIDER-MAN #234 (MARVEL, 2017) This issue features the first appearance of Mile’s uncle, Aaron Davis, as the IRON SPIDER. It’s not clear WHERE or WHY this is trending, but it is. It sold 13 copies, had a 7-day trend of 280% and had a high sale of $20 for a raw copy.

#8 NEW AVENGERS #10 (MARVEL, 2013) There has been some interesting spec on Thane, the son of Thanos. The big splash page at the end of THOR #6, in it, the black gauntlet that Thanos wields in that panel make it look like this may not be Thanos, but Thane. With that said, this theory lit a fire under Thane’s first appearance in this issue sold 20 copies, had a 7-day trend of 153% and had a high sale of $299.99 for a CGC 9.8.

#9 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #375 (MARVEL, 1993) This book is a holdover from last week, as Anne Weying (whose first appearance is in this issue) is still trending due to her appearance in VENOM #27 as a member of a team of AGENT VENOMS. It sold 31 copies, had a 7-day trend of 97% and had a high sale of $189.99 for a CGC 9.8.

#10 TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: THE LAST RONIN ASHCAN (IDW, 2020) IDW has delayed the much-anticipated series due to “creative changes”. It was reported that retailers were unhappy with the lackluster artwork they saw in this ashcan, hence IDW bringing in artists Esau Escorza and Isaac Escorza. What will change and how much will change is unknown. However, what was seen in this ashcan is most likely going to be different in some way, making this an instant hard-to-find collectible. Due to this, it sold 15 copies, had a 7-day trend of 192% and had a high sale of $75 for a raw copy.
