Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 10/21/20

Every week, hundreds of new comics hit the stands, each with potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are our picks of the week for comics delivering 10/21/20:

Returning Favorites
Stillwater By Zdarsky & Perez #2 – I have got to tell you, I have a strong feeling this book will end up with an option. First issue had some heat behind it. Good story.

Venom #29 – This is still a must pick up for me. I know people have said it has been a little slow and people were disappointed with the reveal of Virus and Codex identities, but still has been a solid series.

Something Is Killing The Children #11 – The hottest indy series on the market. Grab these books, and the variants, when you see them. Check Mycomicshop to try to snag the variants.

Peach Momoko Covers
Spider-Woman #5 – There is a regular and a 1:100 Virgin Variant
Teen Titans #46

New #1’s
Dune House Atreides #1 – New comic for Dune Fans

Werewolf By Night #1 – I have been looking forward to this since it was first announced. The Native American focused werewolf tale looks cool.

Scumbag #1 – New series from Rick Remender about our own Poyo. I kid, I kid, the story of Ernie Ray Clementine, a profane, illiterate, drug-addicted biker with a fifth-grade education. He’s the only thing standing between us and total Armageddon because this dummy accidentally received a power-imbuing serum, making him the world’s most powerful super spy.

Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina Presents Madame Satan One Shot – great looking cover, I cannot get enough go the Archie Horror books. Well done.

Batman White Knight Presents Harley Quinn #1blank is pretty cool on this.

For the Cover

Skulldigger And Skeleton Boy From The World Of Black Hammer #5 – Besides being a great book, this is a kick ass Skull-cycle cover.

The Halloween One
Stranger Things Halloween Special One Shot – Hey, its October. Great time for creepy reads. This takes place before season one and reveals the quaint town’s deepest kept secret: the Child Eater of Hawkins.

The DC Pick of the Week
Dark Nights Death Metal Robin King One Shot – Robin King takes center stage. Hopefully this brings more heat to the earlier issues. The variant looks pretty cool.

The One to Watch
Metal Men #11 – Something cool happens to the Metal Men as a result of the Darkest Knight. Could take traction and be pretty cool.

Small Press Pick of the Week
Phantom Starkiller #1 – A mashup of Darth Vader and Skeletor. This is from the Killer Bootleg toy line. The NYCC book is on fire. A must grab.

Pick of the Week
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #110 – It was revealed that this issue features a preview of the Last Ronin. Copies were scooped up quickly. What about the ashcan?, people say. Well, not everyone got one. So this preview became pretty attractive. Sold out at many online shops. Could be a grab in stores. This is also the first appearance of the Road Hogs, so that is a double whammy.

  1. IDW really dropped the ball on Last Ronin. Between six separate delays and then sending a letter to retailers last week apologizing for not printing enough copies (they didn’t even print to match FOC orders, much less having any for advance reorders) resulting in even on-time orders being allocated? Not a good look.

“Oh we’re so sorry. We plan to rush a second print and we will also give stores a free incentive variant for every 75 copies they ordered! Plus don’t worry we will still be promoting the book all over the place in December!”

So the big internet retailers get free presents, the ability to mark up their extra copies, and some buzz on the book. The small retailers who might have ordered 10-15 copies won’t even get their orders filled and have to explain to customers who are seeing constant promotion for the book why they don’t have any copies.

We sell a lot of IDW product. The Marvel Action titles, Sonic, and My Little Pony all outsell Avengers, Justice League, Spawn, etc. But I’m not ordering a single shelf copy of Last Ronin #2-on. I’ll fill my subs and that’s it.

    1. Ah – was wondering why Midtown jacked up their Last Ronin prices – $25 for Cover B? I’ll pass – thanks for the info
