Covrprice.com Top Ten for Week Ending 10/23/20

Since Covrprice.com  came on the scene, they have become a go to spot for watching eBaytrends on comics. They scour thousands of eBay sales to cultivate data to spotlight the hottest selling comics. Here is this week’s Top Ten Comics: (Please note, potential spoilers do follow, and, these results are for auction that closed last week. )

#1 ECTOKID #1 (MARVEL, 1993) Per COMICBOOK.COM, “Ectokid: Clive Barker Is Developing His Marvel Comic Into a TV Series”. File this under “books you’ve seen a million times and never really looked once at it”. This news took this 25 cent back issue to it’s current $27 raw value, landing it in our #1 spot on the TOP 10 this week. It sold 27 copies, had a 7-day trend of 445% and had a high sale of $34.99 for raw copy.

#2 MAD MAX FURY ROAD FURIOSA #1 (VERTIGO, 2015) Per Variety, “George Miller has tapped Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II to star in “Furiosa,” the prequel movie based on Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa character from 2015’s “Mad Max: Fury Road.” This news helped move this 2015 one-shot into our #2 spot. It sold 34 copies, had a 7-day trend of 228% and had a high sale of $89.99 for a CGC 9.8.

#3 STATIC #1 COLLECTOR’S EDITION (DC, 1993) Yep, the collector’s edition made the list as well. In fact, we expect the Platinum variant to make this list in the near future. For now, this collector’s edition won the race by selling 33 copies with a 7-day trend of 202% and a high sale of $100 for a raw copy.

#4 JUSTICE LEAGUE #50 (DC, 2016) As mentioned, all things GL are hot right now. However, most of the focus is on Jessica Cruz. This issue marks her first appearance as Green Lantern. It sold 51 copies, had a 7-day trend of 114% and had a high sale of $235 for a CGC 9.8.

#5 STATIC #1 (DC, 1993) In actual CONFIRMED (and awesome) news, per Hollywood Reporter “Michael B. Jordan, Outlier Society to Produce DC Movie ‘Static Shock’”. As fans of the animated STATIC X show, we’re looking forward to this (please ride a manhole cover!). This is heated up Static’s first appearance AND this last issue to that first series, which sold for $250 raw this week. His first appearance in this issue sold 14 copies, had a 7-day trend of 335% and had a high sale of $80 for a raw copy.

#6 THE WALKING DEAD DELUXE #1 GOLD FOIL (IMAGE, 2020) Man, collectors are loving these one-per store variants. It sold 59 copies, had a 7-day trend of 74% and had a high sale of $179.99 for a raw copy. However, due to the high number of copies listed, the current price has dropped to $60 to $75. Keep in mind, these one-per-stores are not rare, despite the illusion of the “one-per” title.

#7 WE LIVE #1 DUSTIN NGUYEN 1:15 VARIANT (AFTERSHOCK, 2020) This was the HOT new release from last week, with this 1:15 variant selling 59 copies with a 7-day trend of 65% and a high sale of $46 for a raw copy. The standard cover is doing decently at $8 as well. A few years ago, collectors were burnt out of constantly chasing “the next big book” week after week. The high demand for independent releases seemed to slow over the past couple years, until COVID hit. These independent publishers were able to pivot VERY well to direct/ on-line sales and seem to be doing well, giving a renewed (and welcomed) lift to the independent market.

#8 THE BOYS HEROGASM #1 (DYNAMITE, 2009) As mentioned, with THE BOYS popularity, collectors felt comfortable investing in upcoming key issues, like this first appearance of SOLIDER BOY. If you recall, actor Jensen Ackles (of Supernatural fame) was recently announced to play the role in Season 3. This issue sold 14 copies, had a 7-day trend of 251% and had a high sale of $63.75 for a raw copy.

#9 GREEN LANTERN #20 (DC, 2013) Variety is reporting that “‘Green Lantern’ Series Gets Greenlight at HBO Max, Seth Grahame-Smith and Marc Guggenheim to Write.” It continued to list the characters that it would include: “The show will depict the adventures of a multitude of Lanterns, including Jessica Cruz. Well, we all love a good first appearance debate. CGC notates this as “First appearance of Jessica Cruz in a one-panel cameo (face not revealed)”, which is referred to as the infamous “first arm” appearance. Regardless of this light cameo, it had a high sale of $83 raw this week. The current listed copies are all pretty pricey. It sold 19 copies, had a 7-day trend of 148% and had a high sale of $125.96 for a CGC 9.8.

#10 VENGEANCE #1 (DC, 2011) It’s been reported that actress Xochitl Gomez had been cast in an unnamed role for Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”. Many are assuming that she’s going to play the role of AMERICA CHAVEZ. While it’s mostly guesswork, it’ll most likely be awhile before we get solid confirmation. Still, this news threw some extra fuel on the already hot first appearance. It sold 19 copies, had a 7-day trend of 106% and had a high sale of $769.99 for a CGC 9.8.
