Welcome to this weeks spec and drek. This is where we pick the winners each week we think will be spec worthy, a great read or just cool looking art on the cover. I also dive into the pesky drek, the book you should probably avoid if you can or perhaps not invest so heavily into.
DC Picks
There is absolutely nothing coming out of DC this week. So this week’s pick that might help push along the popularity of the new gal goes to Punchline Special One-Shot.
DC will continue to push this character after her first appearances in Batman #89 and Year of the Villain: Hell Arisen #3 took off last spring.
Punchline Special #1 (Cover B – Cho Card Stock Variant)
Punchline Special #1 (Cover C – Blank Variant)
Marvel Picks
Hands down, Darth Vader #7. Probably won’t be the ultimate winner since Ochi got that last full page appearance in Darth Vader #6 but we should expect a whole lot more in this issue.
It’s been a fantastic read as well. Even if Ochi didn’t appear in issue #6, that last issue was epic with the Emperor letting Vader know who’s the master and who’s still got a lot of learning to do.
There’s also a pretty cool Star Wars Darth Vader #7 (Sprouse Empire Strikes Back Variant) for you Empire Strikes Back fans that love the bounty hunter scene on the Star Destroyer going over the terms of hunting down Solo to lead Luke to Vader and the Empire.
The other Marvel pick for me goes to Taskmaster #1. Really hoping for a great read out of this title.
Marvel should do a lot more with this villain and I think his first full in Avengers #196 is an underrated book. Should be in everyone’s personal collection arsenal.
Indie and Small Publisher Picks
I highlighted this one in my previews a month or two back. I’m hoping for a great read and any parents out there can probably enjoy this one.
Scarenthood #1 hits shelves and I can say one thing as a parent myself, nothing scarier than letting your kids down..
The new Aftershock book Miskatonic #1 might end up being a good title to read. It’s a definite book to check out first before purchasing though for me as it could go either way, good or bad.
Now on with the dreaded “drek” pick, every writer and artists worst nightmare when it comes to selling their hard work.
The book to avoid or not fall victim to in buying at ratio inflated prices.
Not the greatest 2nd printings but might be worthwhile to pickup up at least 1 copy of each, for the just in case goes to Wolverine #6 Xos (2nd Printing) and X-force #13 Xos (2nd Printing). Since the new character showed up on the first printing covers for both of these, these aren’t that special.
Can’t agree more! Star Wars 7 and the 2nd Print of #6 are a must! Hope this find you well!
Will wait for 2nd print of DV #7…and only if the character is on the cover or for the read.
You already missed him on the 2nd print of 6…
