Covrprice.com Top Ten for Week Ending 12/17/20

Since Covrprice.com  came on the scene, they have become a go to spot for watching eBaytrends on comics. They scour thousands of eBay sales to cultivate data to spotlight the hottest selling comics. Here is this week’s Top Ten Comics: (Please note, potential spoilers do follow, and, these results are for auction that closed last week. )

#1 DC’S VERY MERRY MULTIVERSE #1 (DC, 2020) Yeah, we were surprised to see this land in the Top Spot too. Out of all the hot books, this first appearance of Jeff Chambers/ Kid Quick (who will be THE FLASH in DC’s Future State) took the top spot. Why? It sold a bunch of copies… with 128 copies sold, had a 7-day trend of 198% and had a high sale of $29.99 for a raw copy. The price has since settled to $15/$20… but man did this book move this week! Look at DC, sneaking in there at the last minute for what was clearly a Marvel week.

#2 DAREDEVIL #25 (MARVEL, 2020) This was the hottest book of the week last week and had the biggest aftermarket movement of any new release we’ve ever seen. This week, it began cooling… selling 168 copies (down from last week’s 355) with a 7-day trend of 115% and had a high sale of $67 for a raw price.

#3 STAR WARS #2 (MARVEL, 1977) Another Disney Summit announcement of OBI-WAN KENOBI getting his own series on Disney+. His first appearance in this issue has been LONG undervalued as it also features the first Han Solo, Chewbacca, Millennium Falcon, Jaba the Hutt and the Death Star, It sold 38 copies, had a 7-day trend of 352% and had a high sale of $325 for a CGC 9.6.

#4 INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #1 (MARVEL, 2016) Since the casting news leaked a few months ago, Riri’s key issues had time to jump in price already. Upon the summit news, many turned to the most affordable, which was this issue. It features the first appearance of Ironheart (both in costume and in name via cover). It sold 50 copies, had a 7-day trend of 257% and had a high sale of $199.99 for a CGC 9.8.

#5 THOR GOD OF THUNDER #2 (MARVEL, 2012) The Investor summit also confirmed that Christian Bale will play the villain Gorr, the God Butcher in THOR: LOVE & THUNDER. Out of all the hot books, this received the most attention and excitement, causing prices to skyrocket. Many are wondering if Gorr will wield the Necrosword. If he does… then brace yourself for a wave of Knull speculation. It sold 61 copies, had a 7-day trend of 193% and had a high sale of $500 for a CGC 9.8.

#6 STAR WARS MACE WINDU #5 (MARVEL, 2017) With the announcement of a solo AHSOKA series, her already expensive first appearance left fans scrambling for the NEXT more affordable book. They found this issue, which features the first appearance of Ahsoka in Star Wars canon. It sold 37 copies, had a 7-day trend of 269% and had a high sale of $399 for a CGC 9.8 (though another 9.8 just sold for $500).

#7 STAR WARS #5 NEWSSTAND (MARVEL, 1977) This issue features the first appearance of Wedge Antilles, a beloved Rogue Squadron member. After the film news was announced, speculation circled around this film focusing on the squad from the original Star Wars trilogy. It sold 45 copies, had a 7-day trend of 209% and had a high sale of $249 for a CGC 9.8.

#8 SECRET INVASION #1 (MARVEL, 2008) Yep, another Investor Summit book. It was confirmed that Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role as Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. alongside Ben Mendelsohn’s “Talos”, the shapeshifting Skrull from Captain Marvel. This first issue was an immediate “go-to” book and sold 31 copies, had a 7-day trend of 304% and had a high sale of $111.86 for a CGC 9.8.

#9 STAR WARS: X-WING ROGUE SQUADRON #1 (DARK HORSE, 1995) Also revealed at the Investor summit is that Wonder Woman 1984’s Patty Jenkins will direct a new Rogue Squadron film, set to release in Dec. 2023. That gave this first Rogue Squadron issue a nice bump in sales and price. It sold 30 copies, had a 7-day trend of 245% and had a high sale of $135 for a CGC 9.9. The first first reference of rogue leader and the rogue designation was in STAR WARS #39 via cameo and then a full appearance in #40.

#10 INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #9 (MARVEL, 2016) We first heard strong rumors of Ironheart casting back in August, though we didn’t know who would play the fan-favorite character. Well, the Disney Investor summit confirmed that actress Dominique Thorne will play the role of Riri Williams. Her first full appearance in this issue trended the most among her various key issues. It sold 44 copies, had a 7-day trend of 161% and had a high sale of $425 for a CGC 9.8.
