Comic Picks of the Week for Delivery 8/18/21

Every week, hundreds of new books hit the stands, each with potential. We pick the ones we think have the best shot at heating up. Here are the picks of the week for delivery this Wednesday

Man, this month has a fifth week, but this week feels like a fifth week. Should be easy on the wallets though.

New #1’s
Second Chances #1 – New Image Series. Second Chances Hotline – call now and get a new identity! All you need is some cash, a proper referral, and a very good reason to start over. When Leblanc, the man behind the hotline, is approached by a shady figure from his past, he’s forced to accept a new client who doesn’t meet any of the requirements – a client with chemically induced amnesia in desperate need of protection.

Trial of Magneto #1 – Kicking off another trial for Magneto. Kinda hoping that he gets off for the murder but ends up going to jail for a parole violation, I mean this guy has had so many trials…

Box #1 – Red 5 has put out some good books with some success on the secondary market. Leo Bloom is a private detective. His partner is a Box. A magic Box from which he can take whatever he can imagine … some of the time. But when he’s framed for the kidnapping of a prominent scholar Leo suspects a plot to take his prized possession from him. Can he find out before either the police or the Mafia find him?

Count Draco Knuckleduster #1 – I love these bootleg books. The Phantom Starkiller was really cool. Looking forward to this.

Kang The Conqueror #1 – The Marvel villain who will be taking center stage in the upcoming MCU gets a new mini.

God Of Tremors #1 – A 19th Century gothic horror of exorcism, demonic worship and epilepsy. When Aubrey has his first seizure, he’s pulled out of school and hidden away in the family’s remote country estate. His father – a high-ranking English priest – tries to chase the ‘devil’ out of Aubrey – but maybe the devil lurks in the grotesque pagan effigy that dwells on the grounds. And maybe the devil will turn out to be Aubrey’s only ally… A singular tale of nightmarish terror and creeping enlightenment told against a backdrop of ignorance and brutality.

For the Cover

Black Cat #9 – This series has had some really good covers, this is no exception, except there are three I really like. Really like the design work on the Pepe Larraz cover, but also like the Marvel Games Cover as well. And, if you can find the Joshua Sway ratio variant, its pretty nice and selling for about $10 above ratio.

Cover of the Week

Miles Morales Spider-Man Annual #1 Tony Fleecs Variant – Just an awesome looking retro cover. Love it. With cover art by Fleecs, the artist behind the hit series Stray Dogs, this one is selling for 2x ratio on eBay.

Small Press Gem
Teether A Long And Lonesome Road #0 – I loved Teether. This one shot picks up Lily’s story. After waking up in the morgue, Lily finds herself wandering Indiana’s back roads, struggling to remember who she is. All she knows is a driving urge to return “home”. She hitches a ride with a man who smells of death and has an odd gleam in his eye. Despite the warning signs, something tells Lily he’ll take her right where she wants to go. Two monsters are about to share a ride on the road to Hell!

Small Press Pick of the Week
Passive / Aggressive #1 – New Bad Idea book. These have been good reads overall. New York Times best-selling writer Matt Kindt (Mind MGMT) and legendary illustrator David Lapham (Stray Bullets) give bone-shredding vengeance a name this August as another piece is placed on the HERO TRADE board in a tale guaranteed to shock and provoke. Already selling for $25 on eBay

Pick of the Week

Eat The Rich #1 – I really think this has the chance of being one of those books that slow burn into something hot. What unspeakable horror eats away at the heart of Crestfall Bluffs? With law school and her whole life ahead of her, Joey plans to summer with her boyfriend Astor in his seemingly perfect hometown of Crestfall Bluffs. It’s a chance to finally meet Astor’s family and childhood friends, all while enjoying a vacation with every need attended to by servants. But beneath the affluent perfection lies a dark, deadly rot… will Joey discover the truth before it’s too late, and if she does, can she survive to tell the tale? The bold, horrifying psychological thriller from Hugo Award-winning author Sarah Gailey (The Echo Wife, Magic For Liars) with artist Pius Bak (Firefly, The Magicians), perfect for fans of Stillwater and Nailbiter!

  1. Thanks for mentioning Passive/Aggressive #1 is a new Bad Idea book. I initially ignored it b/c the cover is butt ugly. But I guess I will check it out.
